First off, great product thanks!

When importing products via CSV you are able to specify the related products, which is great. However, in the CSV the related products can be child products of a parent, they import fine but don't show on the site. :(
I think this would be a very useful feature. Imagine you had a black sofa chair, the related items would be a black three seater and a black two seater. However, if the Back two seater was a child product of a white two seater this would not be possible. Or would it?
Many thanks.

Hello,
Are you products published ? does it have quantity ? Can you check that your imported products are correctly added to the "Related products" tab of your product configuration page.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Yes all the products are published and they do have quantity. They work fine from the parent product but not its children.

It would be so useful to relate to a child product?

Many thanks!

Hi,

When you have a parent and a child ; it's for product variants (characteristics).
So that's logical that a variant is not displayed in the product listing because it's a variant for one product.

HI,

I do understand as its a variant of the product. However, it would be useful to link to the master product with the variant required preselected.

Like I said originally; Imagine you had a black sofa chair, the related items would be a black three seater and a black two seater. However, if the Back two seater was a child product of a white two seater this would not be possible. So why can't it link to the white two seater sofa with he "Black two seater sofa" as the preselected characteristic?

Thanks.

Hi,

I do indeed see what you mean. I your particular case, I do see the use for that capability.
The issue is that the related products listing is a listing of products and thus has been made to load products, like other products listings (if fact, it uses the same code as other products listings). So changing it to allow it to load variants as well would be in the realms of possibilities, but would require a lot of modifications and increase a lot the processing on the listings and thus reduce the speed of the processing for the products listings. So I don't see it coming, at least in the short term, especially since no one else requested such thing to be possible so far.
An alternative would be to add the HTML for the related products of each product in the description of the product and change the id of the product in the URL to the id of the variant and that way, when you click on the link to the product page of the related product, you would actually see the variant preselected on the page.
