I am trying to migrate from VM and the products are placed in the wrong categories and some categories loose their names and where they are in relation to sub cats

Are there any limitations to the characters used in the names and descriptions of products and categories as lots contain the " character for inches. If that is the case can the separator character be changed when doing an import?

(The migration from Virtuemart 1 to 2 works fine by the way so that Hikashop can see the VM install)

Hi,

HikaShop supports migration both from VM1 and from VM2.
So there should be no need to upgrade to VM2 if you already have VM1. It could generate more errors doing that as the migration process from VM1 to VM2 isn't perfect and the more you do migrations of the same data, the more the data is lost in the process.
A migration directly from VM1, might have better results.

HikaShop can handle " and almost any characters and I don't see why it would be a problem for the migration process.

Thanks for the reply however that did not work either. Do the categories all have to have unique names, as some sub cats have the same name?

I have attached 2 screen shots, the VM is what the cats should look like, the Hikashop one is way off with incorrect duplicate entries and lost main and sub cats
Thanks

Hi,

Are you using multi-language in VirtueMart ?
Because if during the import you select the "wrong" language, HikaShop could retrieve the data from the incorrect language and give you a different result.
In your database, you can find one table per language for the categories and products (virtuemart_categories_..., virtuemart_products_...)

Hi,

Your category explorer looks strange in HikaShop.
It seems that the root category has been removed.
I don't know what happened during the import. Did you had the root and other default categories of HikaShop there before ?
Was the root category deleted during the import or after ?
If you click on the "rebuild" button of the categories listing, does that change something ?
Were the products correctly imported ? In that case, wouldn't it be simpler to fix the categories tree manually ?

Yep looks very strange have tried the rebuild but does not make any difference

The Root cat is there but the are other cats 'above' it

BTW I can export into VM 2 and Mijoshop without any issue

Is it possible to login the site and have a go yourself please as my customer is getting upset?

Too many blank (after the import) cats to do a manual fix - the products look ok but are in the wrong cats and there are too many to fix manually

Thanks Steve

Hi,

If you want us to take a look at your website ; we will need some credentials and links in order to be able to work.
You can send us such kind of private information using the "contact us" form, with a link to that forum thread (so the support team will know what to do with the credentials, otherwise the message is destroyed).

Hi,

Sorry for that. The last two months were quite hectic on our end. Such import problems are quite complex to understand and solve as it depends on how the other solution is configured and what data is there. Thus it takes a lot of time to analyze. Of course, we were not able to reproduce the problem on our end so the only option would have been to debug the issue directly on the website.
I tried to have a look today, but I see that you've moved on. I wish you all the best.

I can give you access if you still would like to look for me, I have not decided on a replacement product and would like to stay with Hikashop ideally because of all the work done so far

Yes, please provide an access. Ideally, a backend+FTP+database would be great so that we can check the database data and modify the code of the import if necessary.
