Product Characteristics difficult to manage

HI,

We have a client that has a baby clothing shop. So the main product variants are size, and colour / pattern.

Managing this is very hard, as if we create the two characteristics with every option, when we choose them in the product we end up with a HUGE list many of which we don't actually want as the product itself may only have 1 of those sizes, and two of the colours. But instaed we end up with every colour and every size.

Is there a way to just have a blank characteristic of colour, and of size, and add the options in manually at product level, rather than populating every single option into every single product each time?

This is made more difficult when just one product has a pattern that is unique to that product and no other.

Having tested doing this there are some issues. When we:

• Choose our characteristics (colour & size)
• Then we choose manage variants to manually select the options
• Click new in the variants screen
• Select all our options (title, choose using the drop down the colour and size etc) then save
• All looks fine - so we go back to main product
• Save the product & view on the front end

There is a problem, the variants are not correct. When we check again in the manage variants, the system has changed 3 out 4 of our options to same colour?? even though we selected different colours for each.

This happens every time we leave the variants screen and go back they have changed? is this a bug?

Worked it out.

When you choose your vairants (with it set to not automatically populate) you need to remember to choose the items that you will actually have live.

So for example for us we chose size, & colour. These were alreday created with lots of options but we only wanted to use size newborn, and blue of the colours.

When you first select the charecteristics you want in the main product screen, you need to make sure you choose two items from the list that you will actually use in the product. So ours defaulted to colour pink and size large. So when we added the in the vairants screen colour blue & size newborn, it causes everything to go a little weird.
