Product Options That Have Vairants

HI,

We wish to have two options in a product. One to add bags of firewood & one to add bags of Kindling.

We created two new products in the system, One for Kindling & One for firewood. In this we created product variants for the number of bags (1,2 or 3)

We then added these products to our main product as options. All works great they show up as options and the shopper can choose how many bags of each they want.

We came across the problem, that the shopper may not want any bags of either option but the system choose one of the variants (number of bags) by default.

I notice that if you add a product option with no variants to it the system will auto select "NO" so the option is not selected by default.

How can we achieve this when their is a variant (We can create another variant that is "0 Bags" with no price, but this then conflicts with a shipping condition we have that calculates shipping "per item" as they show as items in the basket.

Thanks for that just what I needed. After the code change I now get this error on the product page

"The default value of one of the characteristics of that product isn't available as a variant. Please check the characteristics and variants of that product"
