I have just started working for a company and part of my job is to look after the website. I am not at all a web-wiz but I'm also not stupid.

I noticed we are currently running 2.1.3, which is obviously a much older version. Much to our delight I noticed the newer versions have features which would be really useful to our business.

We have a web-developer who looks after the technical side of our website, so I asked them why they have not been updating our Hikashop, I got this response:
"Regarding your query about upgrading Hikashop. We have upgraded it in the past but it is a complex process and should not be attempted lightly. It is something that we need to do and it can take up to a day to complete depending on some of the details. There are various potential complications to upgrading so it needs to be managed carefully."

On the HikaShop website it seems like upgrading to the latest version is reasonably simple. Can someone tell me if we need a professional to do the upgrades for us or if we could handle it ourselves. I don't want to attempt it and ruin our website.

-- HikaShop version -- : 2.1.3
-- Joomla version -- : 2.5.1
-- PHP version -- : 5.4.24

Appreciate any advice

Hi,

To update it's quite simple, you have to download the latest package from our website, actually the 2.3.0.
Then thanks to the Joomla extension manager install the latest package, it will be installed over the old one.

Don't worry, you will not lose any settings. And if somes vies have been edited thanks to the views override (Display > Views menu in HikaShop) you will not lose the changes.

Sometimes it can happen some errors depending on the configuration, or anything else.
The best way to update safely is just to duplicate the website in order to have a test environment and a production one.

Hi Xavier,

Thank you for clarifying.

How do I create a duplicate?

Hi,
The solution will be to create a backup of your production site, and extract it on your test site
