how to display a message if checkout is not showing?

hi

i configured shop so that shoppers need to register first before they can checkout.

so how do i display a message saying you need to register before checkout?

or something like the cart module where in you can set a custom message.

or still display the button but you can't click it. it has a note saying you need to login
