Trying to update Hikashop from 4.3.0 to 4.4.0 but keep getting timeout errors. The website is running fine otherwise.

Hi,

It's probably your php.ini resources restrictions which are too low.
In that case, the best is to extract the install package on your computer, upload all the folders and files to the tmp folder of Joomla and use the "install from folder" tab of the Joomla installer and point it to the folder where you uploaded all the content of the install package.
That way, your website won't have to extract the zip and it will save quite a lot of resources and it should allow the install to proceed.

Thank you for the tip. That worked!

But is there no way to install future updates normally from the file? It's always worked until this update.

Best,

AV

Hi,

As I said, that error happened because the resources restrictions of your hosting. Probably because release after release, the packages get bigger and bigger little by little and thus it worked before and doesn't with recent versions because the package is now too big for Joomla to extract all the files in a short enough time before it hits the resources restrictions of the hosting.
So if you want to continue doing your updates normally in the future, you'll have to check with your hosting company if there is the possibility to increase the "memory_limit" and "max_execution_time" settings of your server's php.ini
