Shipping Rates For Specific Products

I wonder if this suggestion is interesting or useful for others...

In the UK we have a problem with parcel sizes where the Royal Mail uses a combination of actual dimensions (not volume) and weight to calculate how much postage you need.

In the past, I have seen people suggesting that you use warehouses to apply different shipping amounts for different products but I have never found this satisfactory since it shows two shipping rates in the checkout and makes it look like the products are coming from different locations. It also tends to work out too much shipping cost for several items that in reality would be packed in the same box.

A way round this would be if you could exclude individual products or whole categories for each shipping rate that you set up, so that if one of those products is in the basket, that shipping option is not available.

That way, I could set up a Large Letter shipping and a Small Parcel shipping and make sure that certain items that are physically too big for a Large Letter but don't weigh very much can only select Small Parcel.

It would also help people who sell some high value items who might want to 'force' people to select a tracked / signed shipping method if one of those premium items is in the basket.

It would be interesting to know if that would be useful for people or if it's possible in Hikashop.

Many thanks
Leila

Hi,

I believe this is a great idea. In fact, it's been years that this is already available by default with HikaShop.
You need to activate the "shipping price per product" setting of your shipping methods.
And then, when you edit a product, you'll see a "shipping prices" area where you'll see a list of all the shipping methods with that setting activated.
Then, if you click on the "+" button for a shipping method, you'll be able to enter additional fees for the product for that shipping method, or check the "block" checkbox to discard the shipping method when this product is in the cart.
We actually have a tutorial about it here:
www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/3...ng-manual-price.html
This is mainly used for two things:
- set shipping prices per product
- forbid the sale of some products to some areas (for example, forbid the sale of guns outside your own country)

Oh wow! I really didn't know that that was how the shipping per product worked or was intended for.

That's great, I will give it a try. Thanks for your reply.

Best wishes
