Custom field translated content not being displayed

I'm sorry to have to bother you, but somehow or the other I can't figure out how to solve my issue. I'm probably doing something wrong, problem is I can't find in which step. So I'm hoping you're willing to lent me a hand with this one...

In the shop all products are duplicated: one in English, one in Dutch. That's not ideal, so I want to skip half of the products and use the translation tool instead. Just like it should be used. All's clear so far.
For design reasons I've added a custom field which loads just normal text content. When I use the translation flags to enter the English and Dutch content, on the English page the content of the custom field will only display the Dutch content. All content of the description box is displayed correctly.

I've tried several steps, i.e. leave the product description and custom field empty and only put content in the translation popup boxes. That's creating an error message which says the translation override file is invalid, all content of the translation box is then being erased. When I'm using content in the products description and custom field box, there is no error message.

I'm aware of the Configuration >> Language >> English and Dutch files. I only don't know how to get the English translation into the custom field area.

Can/will you please help me with this? Thank you very much in advance!

Hi,

We sure can help.
Could you provide:
- a screenshot of the setting of the custom field
- a screenshot of a product's settings page with all the settings
- a screenshot of the whole content of each translation popup for that product
- the URL of that product on your website.
That should allow us to check on the situation, try to reproduce it on your website and on our end, and hopefully tell you what you're missing or provide a patch if it's a bug.

Hi,

I suppose that the issue is probably linked to the variants that you have for your product.
Can you try to do the same for a product without variants ?
Then, can you try for a product for which you create the variants and not edit / save them ?
Then, can you tell us if you've entered something in the custom field for each variant of the product from your link ?
