Hi,

I'm need a comments field available for customers to enter additional order information or to make customer comments.

I have checked and have a custom field in the table order titled "comment" as shown in attached image. However this does not show in the checkout process for the client order.

I also don't see any location for this in the backend orders - this could be because I can't place an order comment - so no orders have comments.

Would like to get this

field working correctly.

Regards
Henk

Hi,

1. Could you provide a screenshot of the settings of that "comment" custom field ?
Also, could you provide a screenshot of the settings under the "Checkout" tab of the HikaShop configuration ?

2. The two fields of your screenshot are of the table "address" and thus should appear when you create / edit an address. However, seeing their name, I suppose you want to make them of the table "item" so that the customer can enter a width/length when adding the products to the cart. So you'll have to delete them and recreate them with the correct table.

Hi,

Sorry about slow reply - just got too busy.
As requested:
Q1: images attached.

Q2: The reason why I want a comment field is to allow customer to add additional information if needed.
I had previously corrected the table associated with length to item table and posted the wrong screen shot and I posted the incorrect screen shot with original post. it should have been q2-a.jpg

Thanks

Hi,

The settings of the custom field and of the checkout workflow look ok.
So try a few things:
- create another custom order field configured like this one and select it in the "fields" view of the checkout instead of the current one.
- try to not select any custom field in the "fields" view of the checkout.
- check if you have the folder templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_hikashop/checkout via FTP. If you do, try temporarily renaming it to disable all view overrides, especially the show_block_fields view file which is used to display the custom order fields on the checkout.

Note that I had an error message saying that the total was too low (a translation override) when that wasn't actually the case on your checkout :

Hi,

Sorted now - did have to create a new custom order field. Then when selected the new field in the checkout steps.

Which is interesting because there is an existing Comment and Date Deliver fields - neither of these will display when selected in the checkout steps. However if I create new for Date Deliver and use this it too appears in the checkout process.
Why do these default custom fields not appear?

Thanks for heads up on "total too low" for that product - fixed now and did not appear as I did not have a weight assigned to the product. For some reason I need to assign a default weight to all products before they can shown in shipping total (requires minimum order value).

Cheers and thanks
Henk

Hi,

It's probably because you have the "include virtual products price" setting turned off in your shipping methods and in that case, only the products with a weight are taken into account.

Thanks, Found and changed "include virtual products price" - so no need to assign weight to products for flat rate shipping option.
