Inventory tracking variants with different weights

I have a question regarding the ability to track inventory using different variants weights. For example, we sell chocolate and we have 5 variants based on weight (1/2 pound, 1 pound, 2 pounds, 5 pounds, and 10 pounds). We have created the products and we have given the quantity of 10 pounds in stock. However, when we sell any of the variants, it does not decrease the quantity. After each sale, the quantity remains at 10 pounds and does not reduce the quantity. Are we doing something wrong?

Hi,

The product quantity is a quantity and you can override this quantity per variant.
But, the quantity and the weight are not linked at all because a weight is not the product quantity.

So are you saying for inventory purposes, I can assign the main product a quantity of say 100 for example and the variant will subtract form the main product quantity the quantity associated with a variant?. I can then assign each the of 5 variants a separate quantity; variant 1 has a quantity of 1, variant 2 has a quantity of 2, variant 3 has a quantity of 3, variant 4 has a quantity of 4, and variant 5 has a quantity of 5. So if I sell 1 of "Variant 5" it will subtract 5 (the quantity associated with variant 5) from from the quantity of the main product (100). 100 - 5 = 95.

Hi,
He just said that by setting a quantity only for your main product, the quantity of all your product variants will be linked to their main product quantity.

. So if I sell 1 of "Variant 5" it will subtract 5 (the quantity associated with variant 5) from from the quantity of the main product (100). 100 - 5 = 95.

If you want your shop to work like this, you'll probably have to develop a plugin but some developer skill will be required.
