ORDER STATUS

Am trying to change an order staus for a payment method i created. How can the syatem automatically change the staus plz?

In the options of the payment method, you can find a field for the order statuses, you just have to set the desired settings here.
Hope this is what you are looking for, if not, thanks to be more precise about your needs.

I would like the order status to be saved in the database according to success of the payment. It's not doing so right now.

Ok so you mean that after a payment is done, the order status is not changed.

Could you enable the debug mode of your payment method in its settings ?
Create a new order via this payment method.
Then go in Configuration > Files and check the payment error log file content, that should give us more informations about the issue.
