How can you part ship an order?

Hi,

Is it possible to part ship an order? Lets say 3 different products are ordered but 1 is not available. How can the order be updated to show that 2 items are shipped but 1 is still waiting?

If this is not possible by default is there a workaround?

The only solution will be to create 3 different orders because there is actually no option to do that.

Is there no way that custom fields could be used to somehow inform the status of each item in the order?

Hi,

There is no sub order system to do that.
You sure can create a custom item field to enter information about that yes. But there is no automated system with partial order statuses.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. I think in reality all is needed is a status option per order line. The over all order status for an order would be something like "part shipped" then each order line would have their own order status (just labels) could custom fields produce this behavior? This would be a very useful and quite simple feature.

I'm afraid that you do not see the complexity and the development time that this "simple" feature would require.
You are talking about modifying the order system core and all views depending to an order (front-end customer order, back-end order, order edition, all order emails, add-on views, etc) ; and by the way change completely how the "order status" is working.
And if you want a "partial ship" you (or someone else) will also want a "partial refund"... So I'll need some antidepressants.

Hi,

I'll send you some anti-depressants and you can have it completed by Monday? :P

This is a feature of redshop already and its very useful for a lot of shop owners (see attached)

If you are developing the warehouse further then this is a kind of feature that will need to go with that as different warehouses will ship products of an order independently.

Yes, we know that it's something that would be great, and we want to do it. But not in the short term. We first need to streamline the order status system and once that's done we can tackle that. And before the order status system, we first need to finish the new checkout/add to cart system. One thing at a time :)

I'd also urgently need that feature for a client, because for growing webshops automations are just needed, and should be available (at the price that a grown webshop can afford) but I can imagine it has a huge influence on many parts of the system. To start off an open source extension with all the possible scalability is not realistic (and apart from that, no one of you here pays for that), so we just have to accept that things develop at their pace.

And regarding redshop.... it might have a lot of features that other shops don't have, but to be fair, according to my experiences a few years ago, redshop never worked properly, some features are even fake (a button, but no functionality for it in the code) and support and the documentation were so poor I had to migrate clients away from it to hikahop even though we bought a license. Having made such experience, I appreciate the continuous and well planned development because it's ten times more reliable, even if it's limited in features.

This was written 2 years ago. Does it not apply to grayt7's request?
As I said I also have a client who wants to part ship orders, so if he used HikaMarket and set up vendors, could he then not use the suborders there? Or does one suborder always handle the whole bunch of products ordered from that vendor?

Hi,

Thank you for your kind message citystrolch. As you say, we prefer to take our time and properly add new features with a good basis so that the code stays clean (or gets cleaner) and will be maintanable in the future, than rush off features to sell more and have more bugs and issues down the road. We're planning for the long term which I think is important if you're serious about your ecommerce website.

HikaMarket indeed creates by default one sub order for all the products of each vendor.
So if you want to manage partial shipping with vendors I think it's not really practical.

We've moved forward actually with the support of partial shipping/refund, etc.
With HikaShop 3.0 (the next release), products in orders will have their own status. By default all the products will have the same status as the main order and the interface won't allow you to change the status of a product.
But it's a step in that direction as that's still something we want to support in the future.

Nicolas, this is great news! I impatiently already sent you guys a contact email to ask about it. I assume the next release will be up and running some time in 2017, right? This answers my question for now and will even be a good step forward in meeting our clients needs. Thanks for the preview!
