Is there a way to add a field for communicating from the buyer to the PayPal gateway, such as special instructions to the merchant?

Any pointers appreciated.

Hi,

In HikaShop Business you can create "order custom fields". It allow you to have special field that the customer can fill during the checkout and you will see after in the order management.
But I don't understand why you want to send some special fields to the paypal gateway.
Paypal won't understand extra fields (that are not in the API) ; so you won't be able to see them after.

Hi Jerome,

My website allows for anonymous purchases, and we are a dues-paying charity. Using HikaCart, amazingly I can now allow members to purchase their annual dues online. But without some sort of variable field I won't know which member purchased their dues without investigating the buyer's email address. I guess it would be ideal if the shopping cart included any sort of textbox for the buyers to fill in, so that the string appeared in the emails which PayPal sends out to merchants.

PayPal itself allows for a variable field for their PayPal button links, placed onto websites, and I guess this field's string becomes concatenated into the item's description on the PayPal website, as well as printed onto email communications to the merchant.

Regards,
David

Hi,

As Jerome said, a custom field of the table "order" will allow you to add such field on the checkout. The field value with them be added to the order in the backend, and to all the order notification emails sent by HikaShop and mainly the order admin notification which is sent to the shop owner upon order creation.

Best regards,
Nicolas
