square payment plugin broken

0 Attempt to assign property "sandbox" on bool

On the front end the order works as expected except when the customer pushes the process payment button, they get a message that reads:

Info: A plugin cancelled the order without displaying any error message.

If I go to the backend to try to find the issue, I can't go any further when I hit this error message. These are the steps to get to that error message.

Search for square
click on Hikashop Square Payment Plugin
click on HikaShip Options
Click on Square Payment

Instead of a settings configuration page I get this error:

An error has occurred
Attempt to assign property "sandbox" on bool
and box that says return to dashboard.

I'm not sure if this is the error that will fix my problem stated at the beginning, but it's as far down the track as i could go.

Of note, I'm on payment plugin version: version 1.5.6 updated in 2023

Thank you for writing. Ok, I found those buttons in the system tab of global configuration. Will the front end be impacted? Is it just a quick turn on and then go through to the same place, find the error and then turn the debug buttons back off and the frontend won't be impacted? Or should I expect there to be something on the frontend people will see?

thank you for explaining. Here is what is says with debug on. everywhere it says JTOOT/ is the beginning of the second column. It won't paste in with columns. I'll attach a screenshot too.
