-- HikaShop version -- : 1.5.8
-- Joomla version -- : 2.5.4

Hi,

First of all I understand tha my configuration is pretty old.
Anyhow, I would like to know how the meta description and keywords are handled in the category view. My issue is that the meta description and keywords, set both at menu item level and hikashop category level, are not shown (whereas the meta title works perfectly) and the default meta are shown instead.
This happens for products lising view only (the metadata of single products are shown correctly).
This is the url generated by the menu item: index.php?option=com_hikashop&view=product&layout=listing

What I already tried from admin panel:
1) Set meta description and keywords at menu item level.
2) Set meta description and keywords at Hika category level.
3) Install the Tag Meta component and set the metadata for the page url (friendly and not friendly).

What I searched inside the hika structure:
1) Look inside the view.html.php file both inside the product view folder and the category folder.
2) Look inside the listing.php file inside the product/tmpl view folder.

I found the method hikashop_setTitle but nothing about the meta keywords and meta description.

Can you give me some hint about how to hard code the metadata handling?

Thanks in advance

Elena

Hi,

As you can see on our website, the version 1.5.8 has been released in 2012.

Release date : May, 29 2012

So an update would be welcome. ;)

Regarding the meta tags, on a product listing you have to fill the meta of the selected category for this menu.
On a page, we can't display many meta, so on a product listing the main category meta are used.

Hi, sorry, maybe I've not been clear: I have already set the meta description and keywords inside the category chosen to be viewed, but these are not shown in the head section of the page. Instead, the default site meta are picked up.
I have also set the same meta inside the menu item options, but without success.

It must be something related to the view code...can you give me some hint about where the meta are recalled inside the php ?

Hi,

The meta data are not added in a view file but in the file components/com_hikashop/views/product/view.html.php or components/com_hikashop/views/category/view.html.php
But it should already handle that automatically.
So maybe there is a bug because it's an old version of HikaShop (thus the update) ? Or maybe it's something else on your website (like a plugin) which overrides HikaShop's meta data.

Nicholas I have the same issue. No metadata is shown for product list views regardless of what is entered in the menu or product category. See
ittybitty.xvdg.com/index.php/home/book-lights
which is Joomla 3.4.4 and Hikashop 2.6.0

Hi,

In the settings of the menu, you have selected a main category, so in HikaShop you have to fill the meta data in the category edition page. This way the listing will display the category metadatas.

Hi,

I've got the like problem.

There are two menus:
1. 'All products' is Hikashop >> product (index.php?option=com_hikashop&view=product&layout=listing)
to display all products of the main product category
2. 'All categories' is HikaShop » category (index.php?option=com_hikashop&view=category&layout=listing)
to display all categories of the main product category

Both menu's pages of the site have the same meta keywords and description, because they both get it from the main category. But that is not good.

It will be a good thing to take meta keywords and description from menus. Have you any suggestion to do it?

Thank you

Hi,

In that case, you should leave the meta data of the main category empty in HikaShop so that HikaShop won't add the meta data to the page.
And instead, you can use a third party SEO extension to add the meta data for each menu item.
