New Discounts are not working and displaying weirdly

I am trying to create new discount codes, but they are not displaying on the front end.

I attach screenshot
1) Shows the discount creation page as set up before saving. I have double checked that dates, quotas and other details will not make the discount invalid.
2) Shows listing page - all new discounts show weirdly eg. "<span class="searchtext">ka-ag-15</span>" whereas before it would have displayed as "KA-AG-15". Don't know why it is suddenly doing this.
3) shows the front end of the website which shows that the discount is just not showing. All seems correct but it does not display.
