variants or custom fields?

i must do a box of 6 bottles of beer.

i have tried to add 6 variants:
bottle1
bottle2
bottle3
bottle4
bottle6
bottle6

for each bottle i have six different beer.

if i add variants my site crush. i have tried to use custom fields but i have selected drop down menu but it doesn't wok.

how can i solve it?

Hi,

I would indeed recommend to use custom fields for that.
You need to use custom fields of the table "item".
If you don't see them after creating them, there is probably a problem with how you set them up. Could you try again and provide a screenshot of the settings of one of the custom field if it still doesn't work ?

I made it work, but if somebody select the label in dropdown menu and make an order the choosen label is not showed in the backend, how is it possible?
In this way is not useful. Or do i wrong something?

Hi,

Check the settings of the custom item field via the menu Display>Custom fields.
There, you'll find many display options so that you can say where the custom item field should display, including one setting for the backend listing that you want to activate.

If you didn't use variants and used custom fields instead, then you'll only be able to set the quantity of the "main product" Beer and not :
bottle1
bottle2
bottle3
bottle4
bottle6
bottle6

I used custom fields because at that time hikashop with so many variants crash my website. is it still in this way?

Hi,

Probably, unless you changed for a more powerful server with less resources restriction, you'll get the same crash with the same number of variants.
However, even if you had variants, I don't think you would be able to set the stock like you want.
You would only be able to set the stock for each combination of values of characteristics (each variant) and not for a value across different characteristics.
