Increased Bot Activity - Adding to Cart

-- HikaShop version -- : 4.4.2
-- Joomla version -- : 3.9.26
-- PHP version -- : 7.4.19

This doesn't have to do with the checkout process but rather with items added to cart.
I occasionally have had bots add a random item to the cart, maybe about a dozen times a week or so. Beginning a few day ago, this bot activity has skyrocketed to around 250 items being added to the cart per day. It's just random multiple IP connections adding random single items to the cart.

Coincidentally this began right after my recent hikashop update. The timing is just coincidental but I was wondering if you guys have heard of anything similar recently.

The bot activity seems to be more of an annoyance than anything, Do you have any advice or recommendations on how to stop or at least minimize this kind of activity of adding items to the cart?

Attached is an example.
Thanks.

Hi,

That's a common issue and not something coming from a recent update of HikaShop.
Here is for example a thread about this from 4 years ago with solutions to the problem:

The best is some htaccess to block bots from using the add to cart URL based on their user-agent.

Okay thanks Nicolas. I also thought it might have been search engine indexing, and maybe it is because today's activity is now way down to a trickle after four days of it. But I've never seen the indexing do this much before. Thanks for the related topic reference the .htaccess file, I'll try to see if that helps. I can also manage it with the cart retain and frequency check settings if it gets worse again.

Thanks again.
