Setting up custom fields for each product customer can fill in when ordering

-- HikaShop version -- : 4.4.5
-- Joomla version -- : 3.10.5
-- PHP version -- : All tested
-- Browser(s) name and version -- : Newest Firefox and Chrome

What I need: The customer can select custom field options and also upload file(s) when adding products to cart. Fields are different dependent on the products.

I have now tried many things, including setting up "Product" custom fields, but these are not useable by the user. I have read a lot of documentation but not been able to find a solution that enables the user to fill in the fields (the reason I bought Business version).

I was also very surprised to find out that the system does not handle different prices based on custom fields. But can understand another plugin is needed: www.hikashop.com/marketplace/product/202...rice-by-obsidev.html

Hi,

You need to create custom fields of the table "item" not of the table "product".
Custom fields of the table "product" are for the administrator to add extra information to the products in the backend, while custom fields of the table "item" are for the user to add extra informatio to the product they are buying on the product page on the frontend.

Thanks. That fixed a lot.

How ever the custom "item" fields are showed on all products and not those they are limited to by either specific category or product?

I'm not sure what you mean ?
In the settings of each custom item field, you have a "categories" and a "products" settings which allows you to restrict the custom fields to either the products of a list of categories or to a list of products directly.
Is that not working for you ?

Correct. That is what is not working as one would think.
The fields are shown on ALL products if no categories or products are selected. So it seems they are by default on instead of off?

Hi,

If you don't restrict the custom field to any product or any category, then yes, the custom field will show for all the products.
So these restriction settings are "off" by default and that's why they are in the "restrictions" section of the edit interface.
It's the same for all the other restriction settings in HikaShop. If you don't select a product or a category for a discount, the discount will be global to all the products.
