Products not displaying after import

I am trying to import products from a csv. In order to determine what column headings I need, I created one item manually and looked at the database in phpmyadmin. I still missed a couple, but ended up with what I think is all that is necessary by looking at the failed import columns and changing their headings. The problem is that none of the imported products are showing on the public page. I've tried to compare one of the imported products with the one I created manually, and I see no difference. At first I thought it was because I did add the overarching category of "product category" to "categories" but that seemed to make no difference.

Any thoughts for something obvious I seem to be missing? I'm attaching screen shots showing my csv file headings and two examples (one manually created and one imported).

I guess it was a menu setting. I changed the setting to "All sub elements" and now they're all showing.
