NJ Tax rule

Hi, I went through few forum topics about taxes and think I have this setup correctly.
What I have is:

Category: NJ Tax
Rate: NJ Tax (7%)
Zone: New Jersey ( this is as state zone, not a tax zone, correct?)
Custome Type: all

Then I went to create a tax zone: New Jersey which is published.
Then I chose my product with the NJ Tax category

The problem I have is that 7% tax shows for all states, not NJ, I want it to show only for the address that has NJ state in it.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you!

Hi,

You don't need a NJ tax zone. You can directly use the NJ state in your tax rule.
If you see the tax even for addresses outside NJ, it means that you modified your zones in an unconventional way.
For example, if you add the United States country zone as a sub zone of the NJ state zone, the system will believe that all the users in the US are in NJ and thus have the tax.

Great, thank you! I applied regular NJ State and NJ state is within country United States of America, so that should be fine, but it still displays taxes for every state.
I created a new single dropdown field for state in the address submission, so I have all of the states listed. Maybe this is something that is not working correctly.
It displays fine when I choose the state in checkout, but when I get to authorize.net page, it shows my billing address without the state.

Do you think the custom field might have something to do with this?
Please see attached is a screen shot.

Yes, that's definitely the problem. You should not change the field type of the address_state custom field because otherwise, the system won't be able to link the value in the address with the zones in HikaShop and thus with the taxes...

Ok great, that helped. Originally I guess the state field was a text field I did not realize it can be connected to Zones which is ideal, so I created my own dropdown.
Now I modified it and it is choosing existing state zones.

The problem I have now is that when I choose an address with NJ, it displays an error at the top: No Payment methods found (the text shows, which is good)
When I switch the address to show a different state, the tax does not show, which is great as well, but I get this error: No Shipping methods found

Any ideas of what I could have done to cause this?
Thank you!
