Can't get rid of USPS authentication errors

USPS error: 80040b1a Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect.
Failed to obtain shipping quotes.
No shipping method found

I've searched the forums, searched the web. I've contacted the USPS and had my ID moved to the production server.... I've added some weight and size limitations to the 1 product I've published so far, and it seems no matter what I do , I can't seem to figure out why I'm still getting these authentication errors. I even updated to a version of the USPS shipping plugin that was posted last week.

I've tried with a US shipping zone I created as the restriction. I tried using the US country zone as the restriction. But all with no luck.

I'm honestly at my wits end and believe I've just straight up run out of possible checkbox combinations to fiddle around with.

Right now the site is just a single item with a few variations so I can get the functionality in place before we go do a massive data entry/porting effort. If I can get ONE item to work, i'd love to actually upgrade to a more advanced hikashop store so we can start accepting coupons etc.

So i'm going to face-palm myself. After wasting more time than I'm comfortable admitting..... I'm going to share for everyone this simple troubleshooting advice.

Don't type.... instead ... COPY PASTE your user name from the USPS email into the plugin module. (yes... i wasted all this time because I typo'd my UserID. On the bright side... I learned a ton searching the forum archives).
