How to set up shipping by weight

I've been reading through many different posts on the forum about various ways to charge for shipping. I see in some of them that it is possible to set up shipping by weight, but none of those posts that I have found explains how to set it up for someone who is totally new to Hikashop. In other words, I'm clueless...

I have the manual shipping plugin installed, but I have no idea how to set it up so that the cart will calculate shipping based on the total weight of an item (or of the cart). I don't see any way to create any rules the way other people have mentioned in their posts. Could someone point me to a tutorial or give me some step by step guidance on how to ship products by weight?

Many thanks,
MaestroC

I have set my prices for weight in this way:

System -> Configuration -> Shipping methods

click on button NEW

select " HikaShop manual shipping plugin"

fill the fields "Name" (e.g. price for weight from 0 to 5 kg) , "description", select published YES. fill the fields "Price" or "Percentage", select Product tax category to set your group of products
check RESTRICTIONS and fill the fields Minimum weight and Maximum weight

Save& Close

Repeat this procedure for each group of price for weight that you need (price for weight from 0 to 5 kg - price for weight from 5 to 10 kg ...)

I hope this help you

Of course you must set the weight in each product ;)

That makes more sense. I never even noticed that the Restrictions button made more options drop down. That was what I was missing. Thank yoU!

What if I want to ship 200 kilos, Is there a way for it to calculate that it is 20 boxes of the 10 Kilos (that costs 10USD) so that the total would be 200 USD ?

hi Bakah
so you have one product weight 10 kg.
The customer orders 20 of them. So the total weight of the pakckage is 200 kg. You have to create or alter a product and configue the weight of this product

Now you need a shipping methode. Look at your postal service for postal rates .
So example: between 151 and 250 kg it will cost you 200 USD.
Give this method a nice name, like : USpostal package 151-250 kg
Enable this plugin.
Now you can also make (a copy of this plugin) for the class 100-150 kg and so on.

Now... if you buy your 20 products you get a total weight of 200 kg so you have to pay 200 usd.

Is this what you meant?

regard Jan
