Hello,

Is there a way that for purchases from a certain weight, for example 5kg and up, needs to contact seller to organise postage and same for international postage they need to contact seller. Message displayed with contact details? Not sure how to work this. It is a request from my client.

Thank you
Kind regards
Lene

Hi,

Yes. Edit all your shipping methods via the menu System>Shipping methods and set the "maximum weight" restriction setting of each one to 5. Then, on the checkout an error message will be displayed automatically when the total weight of the cart is over 5kg.
Then, you can customize that message with a translation override:

Hi,

I tried what you suggested, they did not like that setup.

What they want is that when the items exceeds a certain amount or if it is international postage the customer needs to contact them for postage cost. Once they have received the cost they will manually add the amount to checkout and then proceed and checkout as normal. This could be in the postage section or cart section. Maybe like you have the option to 'add coupon', have 'add postage'??

I might also have to add a 'comment' field to the checkout process. Is it possible to add this under 'coupon'? I know I can add one in 'order' and it falls under terms and conditions acceptance.

Thank you
Kind regards

Hi,

This can be possible, you will have to create custom order fields, one for the "postage" and one for the "comment".
Then you have the possibility to move them where you want in the checkout thanks to the checkout workflow configuration.

As Nicolas said, you can do a translation override to ask to contact to have the postage fees.
To add the postage amount once the customer fill it, it will require the creation of a plugin to get the value of the postage field and add that amount to the cart.

Here is the developer documentation for that:

Hello,

I can easily create the fields and the message can be done by setting up a manual postage without price and a message in the descriptions field, see attached image.

My problem would be to create a plugin, I think that is beyond my knowledge. I would not know where to start.... What would my options be?

Thank you

Hi,

You could do it with a coupon with a negative value. That would add a positive value to the cart which could act as a shipping fee.
That would be easier than creating a custom field and a plugin to handle that value.

Hello,

That is a great idea. I have a problem though when testing, the additional amount is not included in the total for PayPal.

I have attached sample order email with coupon and sample of what shows up in PayPal. I checked system configuration options, PayPal configuration and coupon configuration, I could not see anywhere where I could easily add this to PayPal.

I just did a test to make sure it works as it should with a coupon discount and it does. Please see attached image.

Hi,

The simplest would be to turn off the 'send order details' option of the paypal plugin, as it is by default. Apparently, PayPal doesn't supports negative coupons.

Hi,

The actual amount is not going trough at all to PayPal.

It would be ideal to have a setup like the coupon where you can add the coupon name that already has been setup with a value to be added to cart.

The donation plugin would not work on checkout? I tested it out, it shows on product page, but it does not seem to add the amount to total.

I really need this option to manually add the shipping/postage amount on checkout.

Thanks

Hi,

If you turn off the "send order details" option of the PayPal payment method, the full total of the order is sent to PayPal instead of the details. Doing that, you will have the coupon taken into account. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

The donation plugin is a possibility. If you don't see the amount in the checkout after adding a product with the amount in the custom item field you created, it's either that the custom field doesn't have the correct column name 'amount' or that the donation plugin is disabled or with an access higher than your user account.

Hello,

Ok, I will try that, I did not think that it would make a difference.

Regarding the donation plugin, can that be made visible only on checkout and not on product pages? Just checking my options....

Thanks

Hi,

The donation plugin hasn't been made to work with custom order fields (which display on the checkout).
