Is it possible to setup a manual shipping method (or other) where a client can enter a shipping/courier company and their account number so the shipping can be billed to the clients account?

Thanks!

Hi,

There is no such kind of feature in HikaShop manual shipping plugin.

You can use "order custom field" (requires Business) to let customer enter values during the checkout ; but even if the customer enter something, I don't see how you can set a shipping price or bill something.
So I'm afraid that I don't understand or see what you want to perform but I suppose that it would require some custom development for a custom feature.

There would be no need to display or charge for shipping. The clients own account would be billed manually when the order is processed.
For example:
At checkout the client would select (say) "My own shipping account"
Enter the company: eg, FedEx
Enter their FedEx account number: xxxxxxxx
Shipping would then be billed to the clients FedEx account not the store owner's account.

There are some companies that like/prefer this option. The custom fields should only be displayed if this shipping option is selected.

Clear as mud? :)

Hi,

The shipping plugins in HikaShop don't have the option to let customers enter their own shipper number to be used instead of the merchant shipper number. That would require the customization of the shipping plugins.
So it's not impossible, but you'll need a developer to do that for you.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. What I ended up doing was adding a custom field "Additional Information" and created a manual shipping method. I added a description to the shipping method asking the client to enter the shipping company name and their account number in the additional information field.

I think this should do the job unless you can see any issues with doing it this way.

If that's fine with your needs, then I don't see a problem with that.

This is exactly what we did as well. Problem is that the input in the Additional Information field is not "required". The result is that the shipping method gets selected and they are not required to enter their account number.

How to make it required?

Hi,

In the settings page of your custom field, there is a setting to make the custom field required.
However, it will be required regardless of the selected shipping method.
If you need it to be required only for some shipping methods and not others, that would require some development.
