My client wishes to use the Percentage field to upcharge UPS's shipping charge by 10% to recover her packing material costs. I can't figure out what to put here to generate a 10% increase — nothing I enter generates a 10% increase. The '0.75' I entered in that field is the closest I can come for UPS 3-Day Select but the percent increase is different for every UPS service.

Please advise how this field works. I need to use it for USPS as well and it works the same as this one.

Note: The $2.00 in the Price field works fine for a handling charge so I thought the 'Percentage' field would work similarly. But it doesn't seem to. In addition, the HikaShop UPS Shipping Method documentation page hasn't been updated to reflect these fields which would help.

Thanks in advance for enlightening me!

Hi,

The "Percentage" field there allows you to add an additional percentage fee based on the total amount of your cart.
So if the total amount of the products of the cart is 100€, a percentage of 10% would add 10€ to the UPS shipping fees.

If you use the "Weight approximation" and "Dimensions approximation" fields of your shipping method, you can increase the total weight/dimensions of the cart of 10% for example. The fees would then increase based on that. Although it's not exactly what you want, it's I think the closest available unless you start customizing the code of the UPS shipping plugin.

Thank you Nicolas. It never occurred to me that the percentage was for the product price. I suppose that might work if you only sold one thing but it seems counterintuitive for anyone who sells different types of things. A UPS shipping upcharge should be based on shipping factors, not the product price... IMHO of course!

Well, now that I know how it works, I will jury rig it or try your Weight Approximation idea. It would be helpful if this information was added to the documentation page. Thanks again!

Nicolas,

Just in case, where would I find the code to make that change? If it's as easy as changing a product price variable to a shipping rate variable, I might do that. If it's more complicated, probably not.

For anyone else that wonders about the Generic Configuration for UPS, it is the same as on the Manual Shipping Method .

Hello,

Where would I find the code to make that change

To do that you'll have to directly edit the files of the UPS plugin (ups.php) but some development skills will be required.
