Hello,

I have read many previous post about this, still unsure what I am doing wrong.

I have a tax rate 6.85% set up for Minnesota Residents only. However, if a user chooses PICKUP, which is in Minnesota, it does not add tax. We need PICKUP to add tax.

I have tried different scenerios. Please help. I will send login via contact form.

Hi,

Like for products, you need to select the tax category of the shipping method if you want taxes to apply to shipping:
take.ms/yY1hE
On products, the default tax category is preselected for ease of use since you normally want tax to apply to it. But for shipping costs, it depends a lot on the rules of where you are so it's up to you to add it or not.

Hello,
Setting the product tax category did not work. All products are using the taxable goods category. Only the Minnesota zone is assigned to that tax category.
1. If I checkout with a Minnesota shipping address, tax is applied correctly. If I checkout using pickup, tax is not applied. Pickup is in Minnesota.
2. If I checkout using an billing address in Alabama, it does not give me the choice to use pickup. I have set the config to using type of address for tax : shipping.

The only goal is to have shipping addresses in minnesota and in-store pickup in minnesota have tax applied.

Please help, thank you.

Hi,

Ah ok, you want to override the billing address location and force it to minnesota if that shipping method is selected.
In that case, you want to select minnesota in the "override tax zone" setting of your shipping method.

Hi Nicolas,
That did not work, still no tax applied.
Please see attachments. Note that I have also tried the Restrictions.

If a user chooses Pickup, they need to be taxed. Because the shipping address is Minnesota.

Hi,

I've checked your website and it came from the zones you used. You had created a minnesota tax zone.
I've replaced it in both your tax rule and your shipping method by the minnesota state zone and it's working.
I have the tax:
take.ms/hbyKo
even though my billing address is in alabama:
take.ms/WwIuH

Thank you Nicolas!

I am still trying to understand what was wrong.
In the tax rule, under restrictions, are you saying I had chosen the Minnesota under Country? Instead I should have chosen Minnesota under Taxes?

Thanks again for your time.

Hi,

No, in the "zone" setting of your tax rule and in the "override tax zone" setting of your shipping method, you had selected a tax zone called minnesota, instead of selecting directly the minnesota state zone.
