Cross variants products

Hi,

I have a problem, one of my products have two features, the color (white / black) and size (small, medium, large), but the black version exists only in medium and large version (not as small).

But even if I select the combination black / small as unpublished and inaccessible to all I still see it as an option to purchase in the frontend.

Is there a way to remove or hide this particular combination in the frontend (It's just to prevent any accidental selection by customer)?

Or I have to create two different and separated products?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You can edit the options of that variant via the button "manage variants". There, you could set a sale end date in the past a quantity of 0 or something like this so that the add to cart button is removed and a message displayed instead.

Thanks for the quick response.
I would rather not have the option to not confuse the customer, and not even visible.

I'll prepare two separate products, but thanks anyway for the good suggestion.

Hello,

2 things about this:

I do not have Sales start and end dates for variants (1.4.8 starter version)

If I unpublish or even delete the variant corresponding to a non-existing combination, it still is selectable in the front end. This is not really "expected behaviour".

For the time being, I'll change the out of stock message to "not available in this combination or out of stock"

[by the way, the date on you changelog pages indicate 2010]

...still discovering... loving it!

Hi,

1. Indeed there is no sale dates on the variants, my mistake.

2. Are you sure ? You can test that on our demo website with the knife product... When you unpublish a variant, the choice is removed from the characteristic dropdown on the front end page. Maybe you have several characteristics and you didn't delete all the variants of a possible choice ?
For example, if you have the characteristics size (values S and XL) and color (values yellow and blue). If you unpublish the value S and yellow but that you don't unpublish the variant XL and yellow or the variant S and blue, you will still have all the possible values in the characteristics dropdown...

(we fixed the date in the change log, thanks for reporting it)

Hi Nicolas,

2. Hmmm, not obvious!

You say "when you unpublish a variant, the choice is removed from the caracteristic dropdown" -- I only get an Out of stock message

But you also say "you still have all the possible values in the characteristics dropdown..." -- Yes, that is what I get... And that is what is confusing me (and probably Max) -- You STILL can select S & Yellow.

I (we) were expecting that if you select S in your example above, then Yellow should not appear in the "colour" dropdown!
I did some tests on the demo site and unless I am really not on the same wavelength with you (and that IS probable!), all options remain selectable in the dropdown lists whether or not a variant with those caracteristics exists.

I wish you can prove me wrong !
So, at this stage, I see no alternative but to use the modified "Out of Stock" message to explain that a variant does not exist.

I just unpublished the variant 6 inches from the butcher knife product on our demo website. As you can see, the 6 inches option is not displayed anymore on that product page: www.demo.hikashop.com/index.php?option=c...ow&Itemid=57&lang=en

I see it but that is with only ONE caracteristic.

The moment you add a SECOND caracteristic, both caracteristics will appear ALWAYS.

IF I have the 6in/Blue AND 9in/Yellow THEN the 6in and Yellow options will appear in the drop down and give the "out of stock" message [with default price] EVEN if the 6in/Yellow variant is unpublished or deleted!

IF you don't have a 6in/Yellow variant, then the Expected behaviour should be : IF Yellow is selected THEN 6in should NOT appear OR IF 6in is selected THEN Yellow should not appear.

Note that I am rambling on about this although I can't imagine an easy solution to this, but then I am no developer.

Thanks for being so present Nicolas -- don't forget to take time off sometimes!

Yes, that's indeed the behaviour with more than one characteristic. It would be possible to disable the choices in the case you're talking about, but we don't do it mainly because that would complexify the code quite a lot as additional javascript is required and additional data needs to be loaded. Plus the fact that you can easily override the 'no stock' message to something else in the config under the tab languages.

I am dealing with this issue and wondered what way you ended up going? Did you just change the out of stock message?

Yes. I put "out of stock or not available in this combination".

You can see it here : exemple out of stock by playing with the different options.

Not entirely satisfactory but I am not loosing any sleep over it.

Note that I have not tried the latest versions and do not know if any thing has changed in this regard.

Good luck.

If you configure the "characteristics display method" to "table" in the configuration, and that you have 2 characteristics for your product, HikaShop will display a two dimensional table which will enable the user to only select the possible values. So in some cases, that alone can be a good alternative.

But there is no dynamic reload of characteristic dropdowns based on others' value so far as we worked on other areas of HikaShop since then.
