Associated products module for menu item

Hello,

When trying to display the module - Associated products listing for category listing menu 144 - in the left column the following happens.

The module is displayed in the left column - but the module heading appears in both the left column and above the products in the main content column.

So then I unpublished the module. That removed the module from the left column but now when I click back on the same menu item the 'Associated products listing for category listing menu 144' heading is still displaying above the products in the main content column. But only when I click on that menu item.

Sorry about all these questions, but things are happening that I can't figure out. There is no logical reason that I can see why that heading should be there.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,
Robin

Hi Robjen,

I had this same problem a while back. I know it may seem like a stupid question but when you go into the "Associated products listing for category listing menu 144" module in hikashop in the backend of joomla, is the "show title" option selected as "No"

Also, you can rename the module. It doesn't have to say "Associated products listing for category listing menu 144" and I renamed mine to simply "products" so that if in the eventuality that it does show up, it doesn't look too odd.

Also, check that the hikashop module is not published, and neither is the joomla part of that module. The only thing that should be published, is when you go into the hikashop menu item for that category, and you click on "associated modules" "select" button, the module referrring to should have the published option set to "yes"

Hello Arathol,

Since posting that thread I have discovered that the Joomla part of the module and the Hikashop part seem to work independently.

For example, when I select 'Show title = YES' in the Hikashop options part of the module, the title appears above the products in the main column - I don't want it to show there at all.

If I select 'Show title = NO' in the Hikashop options part of the module, the title is hidden above the products in the main column.

If I change the number of columns in the Hikashop part of the module to 1 (I actually have 3 columns) the products in my main column changes to a single column

The weird thing is, this is happening even though the module is UNPUBLISHED.

Also, I only want to display the module in the left column - I don't want it to affect the main column.

As much as I want to use Hikashop, it's starting to frustrate me. I have the display and sizes of images working really well and looking good. But it seems that every new step I try to implement brings with it a whole new set of problems.

The next stage for me will be to try and add sub-categories and I'm starting to get a headache just thinking about it.

Characteristics are another problem looming. Each product may have different characteristics such as color and size. How do you distinguish between say 20 products with the name 'Color'. How do you know which one of the 20 to choose for your particular product?

That will become another post I'm sure as I start to look at it a bit closer.

Kind regards,
Robin

Hi,

As Arathol said, you have two things:
1. The published/enabled field on the joomla options which enables you to publish a module to a position of your template. If you activate it for a hikashop content module, it will be displayed on your template.
2. The published values of the module in the "associated modules" of your hikashop menus. If you publish a module there, it will be displayed below the menu automatically. That enables you to display a products listing below a category listing menu and keep two set of options, one set (the one of the category listing menu) for the category listing and one set (the one of the module associated to the menu) for the products listing.

If you want to have a module on a position of your template, you should not use a module created by hikashop and associated to a menu, but you should create a NEW module for that. That's what we tell you to do on the tutorial regarding the display of categories or products with a module: www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/6...ml#categories_module
If you don't create a new module and use an module which is already attached to a menu, when you modify the options of the module, it will apply to both the display of the module in the template and the display of the module under the menu category listing.

The names of products with characteristics have the value of the characteristic automatically added to it by default, unless you turned off the option "Append characteristics value to product name" of the configuration. So you should not have any problem to distinguish between the different variants of a product. Here is an example on our demo website:
www.demo.hikashop.com/index.php?option=c...ow&Itemid=82&lang=en
