Hi, I need help on how to create a dropdown menu at the leftside menu area whereby people can see categories of products and click on them.

The one I am able to do only shows the categories listing as div or table or list on the mainbody of the page. I would like it to be at the menu area as a drop down menu. Thanks.

Hi,

In that case, you will have to edit one of the files (listing_div, listing_list or listing_list ) of the view "category" via the menu Display->Views and change the code to display a dropdown instead of what it's displaying.
I think that the easiest will be to edit the listing_list one.

I am not sure how to edit the code, could you advice me?

The dropdown menu I want is something like as shown on this page www.nutritionpark.com/healthfitness/index.np

You can see all the categories displayed under the "Browse" tab at the left side. Currently what Hikashop can do is to display all of them on the mainbody of the page with bullet points.

Thank you!

That's not a dropdown :)

So what you can do is to create a categories listing module (and not a menu):
www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...ml#categories_module
With that you can achieve a display like we have on the left column of our demo website:
www.demo.hikashop.com/
You can look at the options of the module on the demo website to help you reproduce it.

hi nicolas, i am able to do it now. However, I am unable to position the module on "left" module position. When I select other positions such as top or footer, it is able to show, but not on "left". Do you know what might be causing this?? Thank you.

Maybe your template does not have a left position ?
On templates for joomla 1.7 the left position has been replaced by the "position-7" position.

Hi nicolas. Thanks so much.

Now I have another problem, after I have successfully created the menu on the left, when I click on any of the categories, it takes me to the page that lists the products in a Div, however the background of each item box is grey in colour.

I have another set of categories (the original), which have item box in white colour, which is what I want.

I have tried going to Hikashop -> System -> Configuration -> Display to edit the item box colour but it doesn't take effect on frontend no matter what colour i change to.. Please help, thank you!!

The options in that screen are DEFAULT options and are only used for new modules/menus.
For existing menus/modules, you should like in the menus Display->Content menus/modules where you will find the same set of options for each one of your modules/menus.

Hi,
The best solution will be to follow that tutorial to create your category listing. Also, reading that thread will probably help you to do what you want.
