I thought that if i delete countries, it would also delete states within that country?? I have deleted all countries except UK, but i still have over 800 pages of states still remaining.

Also, i want to add missing states to the UK, so when i go to System>Zones>Countries>UK then under sub-zones, click add, i complete all the details but it doesn`t save as a sub zone, it saves as a country??

If you delete a country, it doesn't delete the states within the country. But they won't be used by the system anyway. Since your users will only see the states of the country they selected, if you remove a country the states of the country won't be used, even if they are published.

When you click add in the sub zone area it opens an listing where your can select the zones you want to add to the subzone listing of the zone. That means that you should already have the zones added. Otherwise, you can click on the add button of the popup to create a new zone. Then you will see again the listing of zones where you will have to search for the zone you created to add it to the sub zone listing. We could indeed simplify the process and automatically add the created zone to the subzone listing...It's added to the todo list.

I`m sorry, that has completely lost me :unsure:

I`ll tell you what i want to achieve. I have been looking at the sub-zones for the UK and see that there are some missing. I want to add West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire to the sub-zones of the UK.

Go on the zones management listing. There click "new" to add a new zone. Select the type "state" and set the name of your state, "West Yorkshire" for instance, and click on save.
Then, repeat that for the other states. Once done, edit the country where you want to add those states, UK I suppose. Click on the "add" button in the subzones fieldset. A popup will open. Search those states you just added. Select them and click on the OK button. They should be added to the subzones listing, at the bottom. Click on save to save the changes and you're done.

;) Thanks. It does seem a long way around, maybe just to go into the country, then click add new sub-zone and create it there would be easier.

hi Nicholas,

When user wants to fill in country it syas Netherlands (Nederland).

Where can I change that into just 'Nederland'?

You can edit all the zones via the menu System->Zones. There, edit your country and change the english name into "Nederland" and that should do it.

Hi.

In the register new address section can I change the configuration so that a section that is currently not asterisked/required becomes required (with asterisk) and vice versa. Or even deleted from the form.

For instance - For Germany I don't really need zones. Can I either delete this section or change it to not required/no asterisk?
Also the PLZ (German post code) really should have an asterisk / be required.

Hi there,

You can either make this field not required or unpublish it.
You just have to go in the backend then Display>Custom fields, look for your fields and switch the published or required to the red dot ;)

Hello. I have a problem with country / state / city settings and managing shipping by the selected zones.

By default after choosing a country, the filed "State" shows only the states of the chosen country.

I have created states in the sub-zone of the country and then created shipping zones in the sub-zone of the state. So I think this should have linked the shipping zone to a state that is linked to a country but that doesn't work.

From the "Custom fields" section I have changed "City" field to dropdown and chose it to show the listing from "Shipping zones" that I have added from inside of states names.
It does show everything from the shipping zone but does not automatically filter to show only that shipping zones that are created inside a particular "State zone" and linked to it.

I need to do the following: After choosing a country, only the states of that country should be shown and after choosing a state, cities of that state should be listed only.

In addition to that I have created manual shipping plugins with exceptions to zones where I have chosen a shipping zone. When I choose a shipping zone in the address window in the filed "City" the checkout system says no shipping method was found. If I change "State" filed to show "shipping zone" listing the shipping plugin works.

Please help me to find the problem out.

Hi,

The "linking" between the country and the states is only done between these two types of zones. So it's normal that what you're doing doesn't work.
Similarily, the shipping methods "zone" setting only take into account the state and country custom fields.

So it's not that there is a problem. It's just that you're trying to do something which the system isn't capable of.
If you only want to ship to Armenia, then you could actually repurpose country zones as state zones and state zones as city zones and modify the label of the custom fields address_country and address_state to select respectively the state and the city.
That way, the cities would refresh when you change the state. The drawback is that there wouldn't be a country selector. You could potentially create another custom field to have it, but the states field wouldn't refresh accordingly.
