Access control

Hi Nicolas,

I had hoped that the business edition might provide a way for me to restrict access to a category under a single password that is not the same as the user who makes a purchase. The process I want to support is:

create password protected category > create products from file for dowload (of say a wedding) > send password to co-ordinator who distributes to potential customers (wedding guests) > customer logs into restricted space and puts photos in cart > customer is asked to create an account with his/her email > customer completes purchase > system sends email(s) with files.

Access control works on a group which means I would have to place all potential customers into that group before they can view and purchase photos. I could add text that says, please make an account and send me an email to tell me which event you attended so that I can give you access to ...... I would then also have to verify with a co-ordinator that the person is genuine.

There is another extension called Frontend user access that works on menu items but it looks like it also integrates with Joomla users so could not be used in the way I want.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

I have found that in Front end user access I can assign a code to a group which users enter while creating a user ID.

Not sure what happens if the user already exists.

Also its in conflict with Hika categories.

Hi,

I can see that you can restrict Front end user access user groups to menu items. So you could create one menu item per user group and that menu item would be of the type hikashop products listing with the associated category being the category where the products are for that user group.

Thanks Nicolas,

Yes I would, but would I then not have a problem with the user?

I want a generic password for initial access to the products in a menu, but as FUA and Hika user management are both integrated with Joomla user management, will everyone not be shopping under my generic user, and unable to access the products under a user they create for themselves.

The whole thing could work if the ship to address alowed the entry of a new email address for the auto sending of files upon confirmation and if there was a way to disable the default shipping address.

But FUA also conflicts with HIKA, I get a big error message on HIKA shop category pages because it does not understand HIKA categories.

Unless of course I am misundersanding Joomla user manbagement or the level of integration between HIKA, FUA and Joomla user management.

You said that you can have your customers enter a code while creating their account in order to go into a specific group. If that's the case, then every one will have his own account.

I can't say much about your big error message. What is it ? Could you do a screenshot ?

Here is a screen grab.

When FUA it is enabled I get this.

I have installed the FUA trial version and the functionality is very limitted - could be the reason for the error, but could simply be that it does not understand HIKA categories. Their description of the code per group function I described is a little complex so I will check with them to see if it really works the way I think it does.

I have a work around but it is wildly complex and not very secure using another extension but would prefer to get it working in a good way.

The problem is apparently that FUA thinks that the page is a joomla category listing and thus it tries to do some checks but it doesn't work. You should tell the developers of FUA that you have this problem. When they do their checks, they should also check the option parameter of the URL to make sure that they are on a joomla page and not a HikaShop.

I have a similar scenario which I am trying to resolve. I am trying to set up an events photography site and trying to figure out a way of limiting access to category pages using a password which is given to potential customers at events.

Margot - Did you ever find a way to resolve your issues?

Nicolas - is there a way to do this in any shape or form using Hikashop?

I've seen another site where access to photos are restricted by a pass code, but the user must have created an account first. So I know its possible I'm thinking its possibly a bespoke solution. I'm not a programmer so not sure I can achieve the same without some kind of direction on how to achieve it.

If anyone can point me in the right direction on this I would be most grateful.

thanks
