Product filtering

I'm a HikaShop newbie trying to evaluate whether this software will be suitable for an office supplies ecommerce site. One of the "must have" features is a product filter that brings up catergories to drill down to say a particular ink cartridge. So what I need to be able to do is click on a "find cartridge" button, which will bring up a dropdown list of manufacturers. Clicking on a manufacturer within this listing would then bring up a list of machine types eg inkjet fax machine. Clicking on this would bring up the models for that manufacturer and clicking on a particular model would then display a list of available products.

The question is - can HikaShop do this and would a newbie be capable of configuring it. The kind of thing I'm looking at is in the bottom right of this site shop.classoffice.co.uk/ - it's not quite as described above but very similar.

You can use the filters feature of the Business edition to do that:

The Module mod_hikashop_filter does not stay on all pages even if you have selected "menu assignment: on all pages"

The module will be visible dependent on the filter you have called in the module's sttings. (the dependency is that you need to select a category in the filter's page, which will be where the module will be visible!)

Yes that's normal. The menu assignment tells joomla to display the module or not.
The category option of a filter tells HikaShop to display the filter or not based on the current category.

So that's two different things. You can have for example two filters on your module. If they are attached to different categories, you will only see one at a time (or none for another category).

Meaning = the MODULE has NOT the cabability to STAY on every page! is that correct ?
It is impossiple to have this module on the first page in a corner (lets say left bottom)!
If the filter inside the module returns nothing it might not show any results but the module should stay in place, no matter which the langing page is!

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for
( www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...ashop-changelog.html )
but I think they have made some nice improvements on the 1.5.6 version, just released today if I am not mistaken. under which I saw the following things among others:

Under "New features"

4rth row ->
Manufacturers filtering on products listing when manufacturers are created (CCC contribution)

@uteco - Thks for your reply :D

The price for the pro version is really not the end of the world if you consider wanting to make money out of it running an online shop. Even a chair would cost more in a real world setup of a shop ...!!

Just show him a demo site where the filters are nicely setup so he can see what they do and how they work.

a comparison page is here
www.hikashop.com/en/component/content/ar...op-feature-list.html

I think what you are looking for is: Custom fields for products (on product section 10th row) on mouseover you can see some more details about that option. I think the "coming soon" part is outdated! hope they will update it asap as it might impact the desicion of potential customers to buy this product or not!

hope it helped you

Its something like that.

I need to create a menu that only show products based on category and manufacturer

eg.

eg
manufacturer: ACER
logitech

categories: desktops
laptops

When I click on the menu button, i want to show only the computers from that category and from that manufacturer.

The menu must be updated every time the category or manufacturer is changed.

The first level just show the manufactures and respective logos.

When I click on some manufacturer, I need to go to a page who show the category (list of categories) and finally when i click on the category button it shows all products from that manufacturer and from that category only.

while im in the product pages i must be able to see the category menu and the manufacturer menu.

Is it possible to do with Custom fields for products??

The demo version on your site is the essentials version??

thanks!

very quick all I can say is:
-carefully designed categories would do the job you try to do.
-custom fields are available for products (and working well judging on my own usage)

-not being part of the hikashop, I do not really know if the demo site is the essential version.

I am sure they will answer you soon in less than a day judging again from my own experiences with them so far :-)

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

@uteco:
No, the module for be on all the pages and you configured it to have it on all the pages.
So you should see it on all the pages. However, the filters in it will only be displayed in the category to which you assign them. If you want to display them everywhere, you should not assign them a category.

Indeed the feature list is a bit outdated :) I've changed that.

@almp :
The version with all the features is the Business edition. That's indeed the one installed on our demo website. What you're describing should be feasible without filters by just creating categories/manufacturers listing modules. For the categories we have a tutorial on that here:
www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...ml#categories_module
For manufacturers, it's almost the same, but you need to change the type of content of your module to manufacturer in the module's hikashop options.

try this

1. Module Manager: Module mod_hikashop_filter
2. Basic Options: Menu = The ID of the menu you want the products to be shown
3. the ID is taken from Component-> Hikashop->display-> content menu.

You can make a module and set all you want to be showen and then use its ID in the Filter module.

Hope it helped you and made things even more complicated :-)

What dropdown are you talking about ?

Could you do a screenshot of the options and the display so that we can see what you did ?

after select the manufacturer

then if i want to filter the products by category the result is:

in this case, those two products are inside the category "portáteis" but the filter only show then when it´s set to show "all"
