Taxes not showing on Checkout

I have a very simple tax setup as I learn about shopping carts:

1. Just one tax category and that category is chosen for all products.
2. Just one tax zone Canada
3. HST tax rate of 12%
4. Just one tax rule (see attached)

I have read the documentation and forum searches several times, but I cannot see why the taxes are not showing up on the checkout page or on the order emails and invoices. I think I have done everything mentioned in the documentation!

What am I missing here?

Thanks

Jim

I have solved the problem of taxes not showing and documenting it here in case it helps others.

In the pull-down box for the Country in the address form, there were two entries for Canada. One had subzones (Provinces) the other did not.
If I use the Canada with no sub-zones, the taxes appear.
With the other Canada entry the taxes do not appear.

When I deleted the Country Zone with no Provinces (sub-zones), the Taxes do not show.

This pointed me to the Canada tax zone, which did not have any subzones. When I added a sub-zone for British Columbia the taxes showed as expected.

Hi,

The problem you had was simple:
You don't need to create a tax zone for Canada.
You can and should directly use the existing Canada country zone in your tax rule.

As you created and used another zone that the country zone for your tax rule, the system didn't know that the canada tax zone and the canada country zone were related, so the tax wasn't applied.

By using the default Canada country zone in your tax rule you indeed solved your problem.

Many thanks, Nicolas.

I guess it shows that I don't understand tax zones :-))

I am trying to setup the taxes but they are not showing.

I am wondering if this is related to a weird situation where I originally put 20% payment fee earlier and then changed it to 15%, it's still showing as 20 at checkout

When setting up a cost, Price with tax matches the original cost.

Hi,

If you have correctly changed your tax value (can you show me screenshots of your tax configuration page ?), can you clear your cache and try it again ? Then tell me if you have a 15% payment fee.

Hi,

You need to make sure that you selected the "Quebec TX" tax category in your products (when you edit them). Otherwise, the tax rules won't apply to them. Also, as you have two tax rules that you can to be applied at the same time, you need to have the "cumulative" option of your tax rules turned on.

This is a screenshot of the backend. Taxes will only apply on the backend if the product's tax category is set to the tax category of your tax rules and if the "main tax zone" option of your hikashop configuration is configured to the zone of your tax rules and/or your user's default address is configured to the zone of your tax rules.
Since that's not the case in your screenshot, it means that one of these things is not configured like it should.
