Hi there,

I have recently purchased the Essentials package, which allows you to use custom fields within the product page. I have tried to implement this to my site and failed. The details I put in to the custom field options shows, but all in one line and not with the required dropdown/check box etc. My reason for purchasing this shopping cart was for this feature! Here is a quick guide to why it is so important.

When a user decides to purchase a product, I need to capture some data from them. for example...

Venue (text field)
Options (drop down with multiple selection)
Ticket Price (text field)

Hope you can help.

Alex

I see what you want to do.
The product custom fields allow you to add information to your product via the back end and display it on the product page. It's used for instance for specifications of computer hardware. Later on, users will be able to search through those fields via a special search module.
The goal wasn't to allow customers to enter information via the front end.

You can have dropdowns so that your users select them on the product page with the characteristics/variants feature we provide. With this feature, you set the values of the characteristics, attach the characteristics to your products and the system generates variants of the product based on them. Then, the customers can select the options they want.
However, the customer can't enter any info themselves and it's not something we accounted for with this. The only possibility for now would be to add custom address fields which are for the user to enter.
Could you explain a bit more the purpose of those fields ? The product information is usually entered by the store, not by the customers, so I'm not sure what you want to achieve. Do you really need those fields on a per-product basis in the order or would it be ok to have one instance of those fields for an entire order ?

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The website allows people to book and pay for their Race Night/Casino night throught the uk. I don't suppose it is mandatory that they input detail (i.e where their event is being held, who the charity would be) but it would have been nice to capture this data.

Cheers

Alex

Hi,

You can always add yourself all the possibilities for an option as characteristic values and use characteristics in your products, but I understand that for some options it's not possible to enter all the cases as for prices, or charity name. Now, you can always use the address custom fields for that even if it's not exactly what you wanted to do.
