Hi Nicolas, Is it possible to add a default weight to a shipping method to cover the weight of the packing materials, like if it is always sent in a tube, we know the tube weighs 100g, that needs to be taken into account when weighing everything up.

Is that possible?

Cheers

If you use UPS, there is already the option "Weight approximation" for that. For the manual shipping plugin, you can just change the weight restrictions accordingly.

Thanks Nicolas, but not using UPS.

Not sure how the weight ranges would work, if we have a packing tube that weights 120grams, and a poster that weights 150 grams and a weight range that is for 250 and under, then if it was just going by the weight of the product, it is under, add the weight of the tube and you are over. I cannot add the extra weight to each product, because then if they got two or three, the false weight would go way up very quickly.

I think it would be a great addition to be able to specify in both manual and maybe aust prost shipping a base "packaging" weight.

If you have shipping method like that:

from 0 to 1kg => $5
from 1kg to 2kg => $10
...etc...

you can simply do like that:

from 0 to 0.9kg => $5
from 0.9kg to 1.9kg => $10
...etc...

That way, the base 100g will be taken into account.

OK, I follow that.

Is it possible to use both the manual and Aust Post plugins?

Lets say I have multiple manual options for Australia, and 2 for the USA, can I activate the Aust Post plugin and it goes, ok, they are from Australia or the USA, let the manual do it's job, or, they are not from Australia or the USA so the Australia post plugin does it's thing?

Or, is the Australia post plugin going to do it's thing regardless and you end up with the manual options displayed as well as the Australia Post options that are returned?

Yes, you can restrict shipping methods by zone. That the purpose of the "zone" option of the shipping methods. So you will first have to create two zones, one for USA+australia, and one for the rest of the countries via the menu System->Zones. Then, you can use these new zones, in the zone option of your shipping methods.

You can also have all both manual and australia post shipping methods displayed at the same time. Then, the user will be able to select between all of them.
