Hello, How can I stop an order e-mail being sent out when a user cancels the paypal payment process without completing payment. (I have the essential version so there is no option to configure e-mails anywhere)

That can be done by unpublishing the order creation email via the menu System>Emails in the Business edition. Without the business edition, you would have to edit the corresponding entry in the hikashop_config table via phpmyadmin.

OK, that seems like a bug to me, shouldn't an order e-mail only be sent out once the order is confirmed, rather than when it is simply created or is this just a way for you to force people to buy the business edition?

It's none of these.
I even gave you the way to do it without buying the Business edition so I don't see how you could say that...
HikaShop is meant to be a versatile shopping cart which is used for lots of things. Some uses require to have two separate emails, one when the order is created and a second one when the order is confirmed.
For example, suppose that you're proposing to your users to pay by check. You will want them to have an email when their order is created, and a second one when you switch their order to confirmed when you receive their check. But even for paypal payment it is useful since sometimes the payment confirmation can be delayed by PayPal, so the order is only confirmed days later.

If I wanted to delve around in PHP I would produce my own cart solution rather than buying a system that is supposed to be configurable, and yes I can see that it would be useful in some circumstances to have both an order creation and an order confirmed e-mail but you aren't giving me any option unless I hack the installation - that isn't versatile, that is rigid.

The solution I proposed is to change a value in a table of the database. It does not involve any PHP.
At some point, we need to have different things in the different versions of HikaShop so that we can live and continue to support the application, but I understand that some users would like to have everything in the free edition and don't pay anything.
I think that 100 euros for something which would cost tens of thousands to develop yourself is a fair price and I don't think that you will find an ecommerce solution with that kind of support for that price in Joomla.

I agree that Hikashop is fantastic value, and the support is clearly top rate, given the speed of response to my query but users should be aware that if they buy anything other than the business edition then they are likely to come up against issues such as this, which might not be straightforward to solve for someone not used to web coding/database admin. I looked at the comparison chart for the different versions and decided that the essential version contained all the features that I required, not needing the apparent additional bells/whistles of the business version - when in fact I probably do need the business version, so I will upgrade, perhaps you should think about improving the description of the differences between the versions.

Thank you for your input on that.
That comparison chart is indeed getting old and we'll look at giving it a fresh look this year. That should help a lot clarify this.
