category/products menus

Help please! I'm driving myself mad trying to follow the documentation and all seemed to be going well. I have two menu items to test the shopping cart and the first one displays perfectly with the products I have listed showing for the category when I click on the menu.

When I click the second menu item (which is a category in my backend cart) it shows the items for both categories.

I have checked that both menus are completed exactly the same - but I just can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Any help much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

Could you do a screenshot of the hikashop options of each menu so that we can see how you configured them ?

Thanks for your reply, I think I see where I was going wrong. I now have the Menu 'Categories' under my Menu 'Home' . What I was trying to do was to have each category listed on my home page as a menu. I still can't see how to do that but at least I have a site that works. I am using a practice page to learn the Hika Cart so its not a real website at the moment. I appreciate your help. I really want to get to know how to do this and will hopefully then progress to buying the upgrade.

What you could do for that is a hikashop category listing module with the "list" layout.
That will display like your menus without having to create one menu per category.

I'm sorry if this is a similar thing to what I asked before. But is there a way of making a side menu showing the category items separatly?

Thanks for your time.

I would tend to answer the same I did already to that question.
Maybe I didn't understand what you want to do ?
Could you give an example of what you want ?

Thank you for your reply. What I am trying to do is create a side menu showing each category within the root file and then click on that category to show the products in that categry on a new page in a div format.

I am only seeing my category heading in the side menu. When I click on the heading it gives me the catefory headings in list format, and then when I click on them it shows me all my products.

I just want the menu to show all the categories and not just the category heading.

Thanks for all your time.

Sue

What you did is create a category listing menu. What I said you should do for what you want is to create a category listing module.

Here is a tutorial for that:

Many, many thanks for you help with this. I do have a category listing to the side of my site now.... I can't see how to make this my side menu though so it picks up the formatting of my template. Is this possible.... if not it doesn't matter as it will do just fine.

Thanks you again for your patience.

It's possible by entering the class name of your menus module in the "module class sfx" option in the joomla options of the module with a space at the beginning, and also the UL class name of the hikashop options of your module.
If you don't know these values, you can get them with firebug on your website or by asking your template provider.

Thanks again for your help. I have tried various options... firebug seems to be showing me lots of values and I have tried a number of class names but can't make any difference. I am using an artisteer template.

I am just using a siste to practice on at the moment URL www.examplepages.me.uk . This isn't a real site... just one I'm using to try and teach myself before I make the real thing. The values I've added in the Hikashop module are UL Class name 'hikashop_category_information_module_87 ' and for the module class sfx. '.art-box art-blockcontent' which are the values I see with firebug.

Am I on the right track or completely off course here please?

From what I can see, the categories on your left menu are already picking your template's CSS, no ?

Thanks Nicolas

I think I am going to start again!! As I said before this is just practice for me at the moment. I think I somehow was linking the module to my main menu on the side bar instead of the vertical menu somehow and that was the problem with it not showing my template as I thought it should. Hopefully I will get better!! - I won't give up!

Thanks again

I've had another try and seem to be able to pick up the template CSS for the side menu module now although its not showing correctly. I have attached an image and would appreciate any suggestions.

I don't see the same thing on your website.
Could you give the exact link of that page ?

The page link is

www.examplepages.me.uk

It should look like the template image I attached before with the menu in a darker blue colour but its not picking up that formatting.

I'm not seeing any joomla menu with that formatting on your website. In fact, I'm not seeing any joomla menu.

Ok... well thanks for your help. I'm completely lost now. When I look at the site I can see the side menu with the Hika shop module showing the categories but not with the blue colour that the template should show. I'll just go with it as it is... or try and change my template. I haven't added any Hikashop modules to the main menu yet.
