If I set it so you have a product category as new arrivals and associate it with a new arrivals menu and add it manually to the product, the user has to go in and delete it from each product or it will delete from all categories and not just the new arrivals page.
If I set it to go from associated category - inventory, it doesn't want to sort at all. I've tried ascending, descending, product id, product published, product created, product modified...etc. The setting is on 'show all sub categories' because it's drawing from multiple sub categories. If I try direct sub categories everything vanishes since everything is in the sub categories.
I just want it to show most recently added - whatever the category - in this section, first. Isn't there any way to do this?

It's easy to do really. We actually have a "latest products" module on our demo website:

Basically, in the "associated category", you set your main category. In the "sub element filter" you set "all sub elements". That will display all your products. Then, you set the ordering column to product_created and the ordering direction to descending and it will list your products from the latest to the oldest.
