Hiding irrelevant product page content from google

Hello all,

Google is starting to index my site, which is great.

The problem is the two lines of type that google include in the search results don't really explain anything about my product.

Google is capturing a tool tip from a product variant and my products custom fields not my products description. Is there a way to "hide" this content form googles indexing robots so it captures the products description instead?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have done a little research on this and it could be achieved using "rich snippets" markup. - Although I am unsure how to add this correctly to hikashop
Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Hello,

In the new release of Hikashop you have the "Hikashop productTag" plugin, which allow you to use a "rich snippets" markup and "google robots" will then capture your product description.

We are still working on it because we want google to also capture for example the rating value, the customers comments...

Hope this plugin will help you (you can find him on the last release of Hikashop).

Hello Mohamed,

Thank you. I have updated to the the latest version of Hikashop Business 1.5.8
But I cannot see any plugin named "Hikashop productTag" I have looked in the Joomla plugin manager.

Is it named something else or am I looking in the wrong place?

Nice you guys think of everything.

I enabled the plugin and tested a product page at random

GOOGLE TESTING SITE www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnip...yalty-card-design-11

PAGE I TESTED www.londonstudio.co.nz/index.php/the-sho...yalty-card-design-11

Everything looked good but it came up with a couple of errors. - Are these anything to be worried about.

Warning: Page contains property "price" which is not part of the schema.
Warning: Page contains property "availability" which is not part of the schema.

Also, I assume google will crawl my site again at some time in the future and see these "rich snippets" and change its search results. I do not need to do anything further to make this happen do I?

Hello,

No you don't have to be worried about this couple of error, I'm currently working on it. Google will as you wanted to, capture the product description the next time that he will crawl your site.

description = Are you looking for a simple way to encourage your cafes customers to be more loyal? A way for you to gain more of your customer’s

Thats great thanks Mohamed,

One thing - Since I did the upgrade this morning my "These are your other options" thumbnails have disapeared from the product description page.

If you take a look at this page below the heading "These are your other options" used to be thumbnails of all other products in the category.

www.londonstudio.co.nz/index.php/the-sho...yalty-card-design-10

Do you know how to get them back?

- Cheers Ben

Let me know and I will snap a screenshot.

Well, you're the one who had added that module under the product page in order to display the products. you should know that better than us. And in fact, we can't tell you that by looking at the page as it doesn't give such information.

Hello Nicolas,

Just to be clear, I'm referring to small product thumbnails that display below the product description on all product pages.
In the past when ever I added a product into the category, it automatically added a small thumbnail to this section on all other product pages in the same category.

Until Mohamed mentioned this was a module I believed this was something automatically built into hikashop. As when I first installed Hikashop the product thumbnails were populated automatically as described above. The only thing I have done is added is a heading above the thumbnails as we discussed in this post.

www.hikashop.com/en/forum/2-general-talk...duct-page.html#52196

So

<h3>These are your other options</h3>

<div class="hikashop_submodules" id="hikashop_submodules" style="clear:both">
in the file "show" of the view "product".

The reason I do not know where the "category thumbanail module" is, Is because if it is a module, I never turned it on initially, also I have gone through all "hikashop" modules and I cannot see it. This is why I believe this is a part of Hikashop and not a controllable module.

Do you how I can get the thumbnails back below all product pages as it was before.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. - Ben

There is no module set by default in HikaShop to display images under the product description on the product page.
I would know if that was the case :)

Ni Nicolas,

No doubt you would. I have just had a look on your demo site, and there are thumbnails of other products below the main product.

The thumbnails are below a heading named "feature products" see...

www.demo.hikashop.com/index.php?option=c...ow&Itemid=83&lang=en

This is what I am referring to, and this is what I am trying to get back. When I first installed hikashop it automatically populated these product thumbnails with other products from the product category. At about the time I upgraded to the latest version, these thumbnail products disappeared leaving me with a heading "these are your other options" above nothing. See...

www.londonstudio.co.nz/index.php/the-sho...oyalty-card-design-1

I liked this feature do you know how I can get it back?

Thanks in advance. - Ben

The products listing module on that page of the demo website is something that has been added when we setup the demo website. It was not like that by default.

If you want to add a products listing module like that, you can follow that tutorial:
www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...html#products_module
Then, make sure that you unpublish that module in the joomla module manager and enable it in the "Modules under the product page" option of the configuration.

Thank you Nicolas,

I have made a new module as described by the tutorial you linked to. However it is still not working correctly.

I have unpublished the module in the joomla module manager and enabled it in the "Modules under the product page" as you recommended
This doesn't display the module at all. Publishing it the module in the joomla module manager makes the modules title only display and display on all pages, ie check out, category listing etc.

I only want this module to display under a product page displaying only other products in the same category. I want up to 15 products to be displayed in three columns, in order of most viewed product. So the most clicked on product will be displayed at the top.

The next problem is, The only part of the module that displays is the title, no thumnails, nothing else.

Attached are screen shots of my settings for the items display settings, module settings and joomla module settings.

Can you please let me know what I need to do to get the result I described above, or it will be easier for both of us, are you available to fix this issue if I give you access to my sites back end.

Just turn on the content synchronization option in your module's options and it should work.

Hi Nicolas,

Sorry I turned on the "Synchronize with currently displayed item when possible" option, it made no difference and still does not show any of the thumbnails.

Do you know anything else I could try?

I'm out of ideas. That ought to work.

Could you give a back end access so that we can check that ?
