Avoiding duplicate pages: 1 unique product URL

First of all, thanks for making Hikashop available. I’ve been able to fit almost everything to my needs. Except for this one thing…
I’ve been trying to find a solution for days, going through the documentation and searching the forum. I hope you can help me.

I’d like to have only 1 URL for each product. Now there are several URL’s for each product because the system generates automaticly different URL’s depending on which module you click from. This is regarded as duplicate content which is very bad for SEO, something I can’t afford to risk.

To be more specific:
My main page is /babykamer-schilderijen which is where are the products are shown, this is a ‘products listing page’.

/babykamer-schilderijen/olifant : this is the one URL where I’d like to show this product, it was created in the ‘menu manager’ selecting ‘Hikashop product page’ and then assigning the product ‘olifant’. It is doing exactly what I want it to do. So far so good.

The problem URL’s:
- when clicking on the Photo or the Link on /babykamer-schilderijen (products listing page) : ‘babykamer-schilderijen/2-olifant-schilderij’
- When clicking on ‘choose options’ on the products listing page : babykamer-schilderijen/cid-2
- When clicking on the link in the cart module : babykamer-schilderijen/cid-42 (that one I can understand, it’s a different product ID as it’s a variant of cid-2, still i’d like it to go to /babykamer-schilderijen/olifant)
- Click on link from the checkout page : babykamer-schilderijen/afrekenen/cid-39 (I assigned ‘/afrekenen’ to be the checkout page)
- When clicking on the product in the ‘associated products module’ on another product page : babykamer-schilderijen/2-olifant-schilderij/related_product-19

Help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Birgit

Hi,

There is not really a solution for that within HikaShop. The way joomla works we have to have different links if you come from different places.

A possibility is to use a SEF redirection extension to make sure that you always have the same URL.
For example, you could try that extension:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-ma...url-redirection/7189

Thanks Nicolas!

This extention works perfectly for redirecting to the proper product pages from most areas.
Unfortunatelly it doesn't work for the links at the checkout page and in the cart, so I removed those links entirely. All good.

One request: using this extention is still not good for SEO as the bot will still see all the different URLs. Lots of people will depend on how well the shop is found in the search results, so mabye this could be considered in the next update?

Even though the links are the different ones, since they redirect to the new URL thanks to that extension, google bots are smart enough to know that they need to use the new links and it won't be a problem for SEO as far as I know.
