Hi,

See my website link : demetracabinetry.com/shop-online.html

"shop-online" is my only content menu with menu ID 131,"choose your configuration" is the only content module.

I want to set the filter module on the left of all the web pages, but before the user select the filter value,it shows the product categories only when clicking "shop online". But as now, you can see there are product listings on the bottom of all the pages. I don't want to show the product listings until user starts selecting the filter value.

How can I do that?

Hi,

You will have to change the way you did your store:
First, you need to create a "shop online" joomla article and add a menu item of the type joomla article with that article selected.
Then, create a HikaShop categories listing module, and in its options, select your previous "shop online" menu item in the "menu" option of the module, and include it in your article with the loadposition plugin of joomla.
Then, configure your filter module so that it displays itself on both menu items.
Finally, move the first shop online menu item to a menu which is not displayed by a menu module and you will have what you want.

I am still quite confused with your instruction.

Don't quite understand what do you meant by ".... and include it in your article with the loadposition plugin of joomla. " How to do this?

Do you mean I should make the top menu item "shop online" as the type joomla article ,and create the "shop online" joomla article with the two images(which are the thumnails of the two top categories) in it and then add the link to the images ?

Possible to draw it out? Or I can give you the access of my backend login upon your request. Thank you!

You need to use the loadposition plugin of joomla:
docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_put_a_module_inside_an_article%3F

Do you mean I should make the top menu item "shop online" as the type joomla article ,and create the "shop online" joomla article

Yes

with the two images(which are the thumnails of the two top categories) in it and then add the link to the images ?

No, you can do that automatically by having a category listing module in your article, as I explained in my previous post.

New problems occur when I got the loadposition plugin of joomla :

1.When "shop online",now it takes me to the two top categories(which is what i want), but it just shows all the sub-categories in one column only(Please click "wall-mounted vanities") ,I don't know where to set the column quantity of the sub-categories.

Secondly when click into the sub-categories(mEco walnut bamboo vanities), no product listins appear. Please follow the website link here : demetracabinetry.com/shop-online.html

2.What you meant by "Then, configure your filter module so that it displays itself on both menu items.", as i understand each filter module can only displays in one menu only.

I set the menu ID 132 to display the filter module which is a product type of content. See screen shot below.

3.What do you mean by "Finally, move the first shop online menu item to a menu which is not displayed by a menu module and you will have what you want. ", as I understand there is only top menu item named as "shop-online".

1. Of course, you need to set that number of columns in your category listing menu. But as I can see, you didn't select a menu in the hikashop options of your category listing module. That's actually also why you don't see the products.

2. I'm talking about the menu assignment area of the filter module, not the menu option.

3. I'm talking about a "menu", not a "menu item" which are two different things in joomla. Each menu item can be below another menu item or not but is always inside a menu.

Nicolas,

Now, I am like in a puzzle ...

I did set the column number to the category listing module, but it can only affects the first layer of the category. See screen shot. But it doesn't affect on the 2nd layer of product category which are the color collections.

Attached another two screen shots, don't know what I did wrong...still not showing the product listings. I will talk about the confusion on the filter module setting problems after I get this first thing solved.

1. Please read carefully my messages.
I said

you need to set that number of columns in your category listing menu

And you're saying

I did set the column number to the category listing module

The option in the module is indeed for the first level of the category listing. The other levels are handled by the 'shop online' menu you select in the "menu" option of your module. So you're not looking at the correct options.

Let's do it step by step:

1. Create a new category listing menu. and set it up in order to display your categories/products properly.
2. In the "menu" option of your module, instead of having the "shop online" menu selected, select the menu you created in point 1.
3. In the menu assignment of your filter module, select both your "shop online" menu (which is a joomla article) and the menu from point 1.

I've followed your instruction in your previous post, the categories/product listings seem working fine now...but the filter still doesn't work properly.

Here is what I did:

1.the category listing menu is named "shop online 1"(in order to avoid confusing in our conversation), ID 139.
2.the joomla article menu item is named "shop online" which is pointed to the article "shop online", and the loadposition plugin of joomla has been included in the article. ID 138. The menu option in its category listing module points to "shop online 1".
3.move "shop online 1" to "hidden menu" which is not displayed by a menu module.
4.assign filter module to be displayed in both "shop online" and "shop online 1" menu items. Set its menu ID as 139.

As far as the filters, I attached you a few screen shots here... please advise what i did wrong?

So the listings are working fine as you're saying. And the filter module is not always displayed on the left area.
All that's left is to undertand why your filters do not display anything in your filter module.

There are several possibilities for that:
the filters are unpbulished (doesn't seem to be the case here)
the dynamic display of the filters is activated (doesn't seem to be the case here)
the filters are not added in the filter module (doesn't seem to be the case here)
you have several filters with the same name and the module takes the other filters options instead of the ones you're looking at (you should check that).
Maybe it comes from the category limitation as I don't see the category on your listings (you should try to remove the category restriction in the filters)

" you have several filters with the same name and the module takes the other filters options instead of the ones you're looking at (you should check that)." -
I set one fitler module which takes all the filters options, see attached screen shot. Am i doing it right?

Do you mean this? see the circle below. It seems working the same even if I remove the category restriction.

Nicolas,

I tried to remove the category restriction, but it works as the same.

Well, the fitler problem is:
Firstly the filters are set to be applied on the custom field, I set 2 filters, one on the width, one on the style, so there are 3 products I've input the custom field, so supposely the width values(which is something like 15,18,21) and the style value(which is comtemporary,traditional...) should apppear on the filter module on the left. However, when you look at my web page, it doesn't appear anything, only the filter names there.

I checked your website and for the size cursor, it's actually because you have the jquery library loaded twice on your page. That creates a javascript error preventing the cursor from being displayed.
You will have to install and publish the jquery easy plugin of joomla in order to avoid that.

For the other one, could you do a screenshot of its current options. There must be something else preventing the system to display it.

Nicolas,

Thanks for the instruction, the cursor now appears there, but the problem still, when I selected the value,it doesn't return any searching result, the website doesn't even seems running the searching. I've set "yes" on "submit on click" , and "no" on "Dynamic display", category set on the top product categoy and including sub categories.

For the "style" filter, please see screen shot below.

Hi,

For the cursor, it's because you have a new javascript error which happens after the cursor is loaded:
Uncaught ReferenceError: $j is not defined shop-online.html:145
It's a javascript code coming form your menu module.
It's apparently using a variable/function which does not exist.

Could you try to disable it temporarily to see if that solves the problem ?
If so, then you will have to either fix the javascript or use something else.
If my understanding is correct, the module is using a customized version of jquery and since jquery easy replaces all the jquery by its own (to avoid conflicts), the menu has that error. In that case, the best would be for the module to use standard jquery from the start.

For the size filter, please remove the category restriction (third option) and try again.

I tried to solve this issue by starting over again with the set-up of the module & menu items.

The listings were working fine but just of a sudden, the product listings don't show up any more(the two top layers of category listings are fine still) when I am testing the filters, see below screen shot.Don't know what happened... I also attach some other screen shots for you to take a look. If necessary, I can provide a backend login for you to look into the problem.

The filters still don't seem running properly ... But let's fix that after the listings issue is solved...

The products listing is working fine as far as I can see on your website. I can see the products. Maybe you should try to logout/login or with another browser (to avoid browser cache/cookie issues).

I then tried your filters and indeed they don't work properly.
Could you do screenshots of your filters ?
