content menus and modules

I am confused how the content menus and modules work.
Modules see attached image "hikashop modules.jpg" I am not sure what these are, how they get made or what to do with them. I have tried to set up related products but it does not seem to work correctly. I don't understand how this works or what I should do with them. :(

Menus - I set up one sidebar menu with hikashop (not sure how I did it but it works). Now I want to set up a hikashop "drop down menu" on the main navigation. I set that up through the joomla menu system but the pages or the links don't work the same as the menu I set up through hikashop.
See my attached image hika menu.jpg

Once I learn this I have to teach it to others so it is important for me to understand.

Thank-you for your help.

When you create a category listing menu, a products listing module is created automatically and associated with it.
That's what allows HikaShop to display products after you click on a category of a category listing menu.

If you want to setup related products, you can follow that documentation:
www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/i...ct-form.html#related

First, I can see that you assigned your modules on the left of your page only to some menus and not to the sub menus of the Shoppe menu. So that's why they don't display. You should edit them via the modules manager and assign them to the sub menus too.
Second, you can configure your menu's options via the menu Display->Content menus. There you can configure the menus so that they display the same.

Hi Nicolas,

Your response:
"When you create a category listing menu, a products listing module is created automatically and associated with it. That's what allows HikaShop to display products after you click on a category of a category listing menu."

How do you know which products listing module that HikaShop creates goes with which category? I guess I am not supposed to touch those? I have over 20 of them and none of them are enabled. My question is what do I do with them? "Associated products listing for category listing menu 576" and what is category listing menu 576? It is very confusing. How do I know what products they go with.

In your last paragraph, I was not asking about the left hand modules. My question is the navigation I set up on the main navigation across the top, the pages (the content in the article where the products go do not show the same as the navigation I have on the left side.

You have the Url in my first question so your see the difference in the two navs.

I have added an image of how the page should look when you click on the top nav. product categories. It does not have the description information only the products.

Sorry to be such a pain. Thanks so much for your help.

Toni

Hi,

1. The module "Associated products listing for category listing menu 576" is used by the menu with the id 576. You can find the menu via the menu Display->Content menus. There, once you open its options, you will see that "Associated products listing for category listing menu 576" module in the "associated modules" option of the menu.

One menu can display several categories and thus you can have one module to display several products listings...or not. It really depends on how your configure your menus and modules.

2. In understood what you were talking about. And so my answer is the same. The simplest to do is this:
edit each menu and module you created via the menus Display>Content menus/modulesand change their options to what you want. If they all have the same options, it will display the same.

I can give you an example if you want...
Take the "photographic print" menu at the top:
66.147.244.189/~treegirl/index.php/shoppe/photograhpic-prints-2
Its id is 589. You can edit it via the menu Display>Content menus.
It's a menu of the type hikashop category listing, so it's displaying the child categories of the category you have configured in the "associated category" option of the menu.
As you can see you don't see any category listing for that menu. That's because the "associated category" you selected doesn't have any child categories.
Also, there is the module with the id 135 which is set in the "associated modules" option of that menu. That's this module which displays the child products of the "associated category" you selected in the menu.
So if you change the options of the menu, it will change the display of the categories (but there are no categories there), and if you change the options of that module, it will change the display of the products listing.

What I can see based on your screenshot, is that you simply would like to have the description of the category displayed for that menu. It's quite simple. In the options of that menu, just turn on the "show description" option and that's all.

Hi Nicolas,
It is beginning to sink in now. I fixed the navigation at the top and they are all working thanks to your time and definition.

I appreciate your patience.
