How to set shipping methods for custom Products

I have frozen food which gets delivered only to Brisbane and gold coast and no where else in Australia. I also have other goods which get delivered nationwide via australia post, however australia post does not ship frozen foods. My question is how to I disable the Australia post shipping method when frozen goods are selected in the shopping cart, and how do I make it so that only people from within the cities of Brisbane and the gold coast can make orders of frozen food? Is there a way to apply a custom shipping method or something of the likes directly to a product?

Thanks,
Alex Harper.

Hi,

Here is how you could do that:

Set a really big weight for the frozen goods. That way, the australia post plugin won't be able to ship these products.
Then, create two manual shipping methods with a zone restriction to australia and a post code range restriction (one range for brisbane and one for gold coast) and a minimum weight quite big (but lower than your frozen products). If you have more than two ranges of post codes, you'll of course have to create more than two manual shipping methods...

Not really Idea, but I guess it will do.
Problem: Every time a frozen item is added to the shopping cart there is a big glaring message at the top that says "The cart items combined weight is too big for all the possible shipping methods" This will confuse the hell out of the people shopping! Is there a way to disable that message?

What now?

Thanks,

You can't disabel it but you can change it via a translation override to have instead "frozen food can only be sent for brisbane and gold coast":
www.hikashop.com/en/download/languages.html#modify
and also, you should try to change your checkout workflow so that the shipping methods selection is only displayed once the user has entered the address. By default that's not the case. You can change that in the Checkout tab of the configuration.
