Cart emtpy or not after checkout?

Hi,

After checkout, when I hit backspace (several times), I am able to go back to the cart.

Even though the cart IS empty, the page shows as if it is still filled.

How can I prevent customers going back to that cart page and instead route them somewhere else?
Or just display that the cart is empty.
