virtuemart import

Hello, I am a small business owner who does most of my own website, not a developer with no css knowledge. I am very excited about Hikashop because I don't like virtuemart. I have downloaded the free version and installed on my joomla site. I am importing from virtuemart via the option in products. When I imported I basically just hit next - next - next - etc.
My question is how long does the import take? My cart says the shop is in maintenance and I just want to make sure that it is supposed to be that way for a while or did I not do something? I enabled the the virtuemart redirect and Hikashop component. What do I do next? I understand I'll have to add pictures and tweak things but did I miss something?

Also I have jewelry products with a silver price and gold price. Is it possible to have options in the free version? I plan to buy the upgrade so I can edit coupons but want to test it first.
Thanks!

Hi geostar,

You can find documentation about import from Virtuemart here:
http://www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentation/73-hikashop-import.html#virtuemart

You can set two different prices (silver and gold) by creating a characteristic in HikaShop > Product > Characteristics.
Create for example the characteristic "Price" and set two different prices "Silver" and "Gold" then in the product configuration, under "characteristics" click on "Add" and select "Price" then "Manage Variants" and set a different price for the two prices.

It depends on the number of products/categories/orders you have. The more you have the longer it takes.
If you have hundreds of thousands of entries, it will be long.

If you don't want the shop to be in maintenance, you should turn off the "Put the store offline" option of the configuration of HikaShop.

Thanks but now I have a new problem. First, I am not a programmer and second, I have read all the documentation and am very confused. I cannot see my content on the front end. I imported from Virtuemart. Once I go to Hikashop - Products - Categories: I have 4 categories, Jewelry, books, altar, special items. All my products are listed under products in their correct category. I cannot seem to get this on the front end. I know to go to Menu - Hikashop - Category? (I've tried all the options, product list etc. and cannot figure this out) nothing seems to be linking up correctly. Please help!

You need to create a HikaShop category listing menu item via the joomla menu manager.
We have a tutorial which explains step by step how to do that:
www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...html#categories_menu

Hi Nicolas,
thanks for the reply. I had read this and did this and am still confused. Once I get to Category menu, I put in the title Jewelry. Under Associated Cat. I Select Jewelry. I do not understand Assoc. Modules. Is it something I have to set up first before I do this, if so how? Also my content manager is showing in my left column for some reason when I have picked Right. It also doesn't link to my products. Please look. geoemetrywave.com
Is there a demo of this anywhere. The confusion in the documentation is because there is no real example. Also I don't understand the Ordering Field on the right.
thanks, margo
