Discount /coupons

Hi,

I want a coupon code for all categories, except one.

But I cannot select the categories I want the coupon to be valid for. I can only select one category and check the subcategories checkbox.
So checking the root category would be an option, if I can exclude categories.

There is no way to exclude categories. So how can I do this?

Hello,

I think that you can :

- Create another category named "discount" for example
- Put your "discounted" categories under the "discount" category

Then you'll be able to select the categories you wanted for your coupon.

Hi Mohamed,

Thank you for your answer. When I do this I need to mess around with the categories, which is really not handyif you have several hundreds of categories. Besides, the articles and categories that have a discount vary per time and per coupon.

for example:
Customer 1 buys "article 1a" and therefore gets a coupon for a related "article 1b" and so on.
or gets a coupon for the category of article 1a.

My initial question was just the beginning and I discovered that even that is not possible.

Isn't there a way to:

- Just attach a coupon to a user (i.e. have a list of users to select from with each coupon)
- Have a list of categories to include with each coupon
- Have a list of categories to exclude with each coupon
- Have a list of products to include with each coupon
- Have a list of products to exclude with each coupon

If you have those fields to choose from with every coupon, you can simply fulfill everyone's needs because the current coupon system has almost zero flexibility...

Zero flexibility is a bit harsh... You can already do pretty complex stuff with all the options of the coupons...

For your questions related to the features of coupons here is the answers:

And please don't ask the same questions over several threads.

Hi Nicolas,

Yes, you are right. Zero is indeed too harsh. But being able to attach just one product or one category to a coupon is not very handy. What if I have 15 categories that I want to attach to a coupon and 130 categories not? Or just 20 products from one category? Or generate a coupon for a customer that bought a product and give discount for related products? Or a combination of these?

Is there a way to change this?

Do you know AWO coupon?
I have worked with AWOCoupon during the times I had Virtuemart. Virtuemart is getting worse every upgrade. That's why I dropped it and moved to Hika.
However, AWO Coupon (Virtuemart extension) is great, but they don't have it for Hikashop.

The setup is slightly different, yet simple. Generate a coupon and you have:
- a select field to choose users or a user for whom the coupon is valid.
- a select field to choose products (ending up in a comma separated string of article id's) for what the couponis valid for.
- a select field to choose categories (also ending up in a comma separated string of category id's) for what the couponis valid for.

Kind regards,
Maurice

Keep in mind that we focused first on developing a solution for small businesses and that we are now improving things in HikaShop towards bigger businesses. And having so much products and categories that you can't use the solution proposed which is to have an unpublished category with the products attached to it for the coupon means that it's not a small business.

We can add your ideas to the todo list, and I think that they indeed make sense for shops which need to handle specific coupons on a big catalog of products. But that's not something you will be able to do by just adding two lines of code in some file. It will require proper development. So I can't give you another solution that what I already proposed.

I indeed know AWO coupon. We don't want to do it like that though as it's not really user friendly. We want to propose an interface to select the products/categories that you want to exclude/include.

Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for your answer. It would great if these ideas are put in the todo list and eventually made available.
I think you will make people happy who actually use coupons, and stimulate people to are not using it yet.
I think it's a great addition to Hikashop.

Do you have any idea about a possible timeframe?

Thank you,
Maurice

Hi,

I added that in the todo list. I can't give you a timeframe. There are hundreds of things in the todo list...
