Multiple Shops with Subdomains?

Hey there! I was curious if Hikashop is capable of doing this before I purchased the Business Edition.

Basically, I am working with several distributors and each one has specific guidelines, rules for shipping, etc.
So I was wondering if it was possible to set up multiple shops on different subdomains.

For example, a user would go to my main page and sign up to register ( www.mywebsite.com ).
Then they would be redirected to a directory of different shops ( www.mywebsite.com/linklist ).
When they click on a shop they are interested in they would then be taken to (www.shop#1.mywebsite.com) where they would be given an FAQ of the rules for that specific distributor.
Then they can continue on with their shopping experience all the way to checkout.

The major problem I can see is possible registration issues. If they register on my main website I don't want them to have to register to all the shops and I'm not sure how to get them to carry over.

If I am over complicating this please feel free to let me know. Maybe there is something I can do with different categories and just one shop?
I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks :)

Hello,

I don't think that it's possible to use more than one hikashop per web site but you can for example create 1 main website and 2 other web site (shop) then have menus of your main web site redirect your customer to one of your shop.

Hope this will help you.

Hi,

You can potentially separate the "websites" as different categories under one real website. That would be way simpler than having several websites as you would need in that case to use something like Joomla Multi Site in order to keep the synchronization between the websites:

Thanks for the information!

I thought about doing multiple domains but thought it might confuse the user when being redirected to a different website the idea is still possible but I think I'm going to look into what nicolas was talking about.

nicolas, would I be able to do something like this with the categories:

Category #1: "Fishing Shop", each item is shipped at a flat rate of $2.50
Category #2: "Boating Electronics", the user has to spend $100+ before we can ship
Category #3: "Fishing Line", spend $10 and shipping is free.

The major problem I see with this is if they order from different categories. Would there be a way to prevent this?

Thanks nicolas and Mohamed! :)

I don't see how to do that without developing a custom shipping plugin.
In that case, a multi domain would probably be the way to go.

What about different Subdomains with Different Databases and just not have the customer log in.

I think I read somewhere that you can skip the log in process and allow people to order without registering.
So, just have the customer put their items in the cart. Fill out information so I can ship to them but have
each of the shops on different subdomains.

Can Hikashop be placed on different subdomains / databases and just have the main website link to the various
subdomains (ie. shops?)

Thanks :)
