Email for change of order status

Hi!
How can I trigger an automatic info email to the customer when the order status is manually changed in the backend?
E.g. when an order is cancelled in the backend, the customer should receive the info "Your order xxx was cancelled."

When you change the order status in the backend, a popup is display with an option "Notify customer" if you check yes for this option, a mail will be sent.
